Re: Country Music
My parents had a fondness for country music. Unfortunately, the kind of country they listened to - the Nashville Sound - really turned me off from that kind of music. Jim Reeves? Tammy Wynette? Billie Joe Spears? No, thanks. Overproduced and maudlin. I heard some stuff that interested me like Emmylo...

Yep, I wrote that one. The streets were a little easter egg for Beano fans. They'll mean nothing to some people but if anyone gets a smile from them, job done.Digifiend wrote:Biffo Street and Snooty Avenue were mentioned in today's episode. It seems two of the Beano's famous stars got streets named after them!

No coincidence at all. She's not the same character but she's a riff on the old Dandy character, using some of the same character tropes. Her evolution was one of the most interesting and challenging parts of the TV show's process for me.AndyB wrote:I am led to believe that that is absolutely no coincidence!

That book was published in 1988, when the Internet didn't yet exist! Computer dating was around before the Internet. Just in a different form. It was Sid James and Hattie Jacques behind a cardboard front making it up as they went along, wasn't it? I saw it in a film so it must be true :) Little Bea...

Re: This week's issue Take 2
Dave numbers his pages in pencil outside of the artwork so his numbers are easy to track. In general terms, in most cases we keep a note of the numbers for payment, so we know exactly when somebody hits a milestone.

I believe Iain was acting editor for a short while this spring, but this may be entirely separate, ie Mike delegating the publication to Iain. He has a long history of the love of classic strips. Andy is right. I have been Acting Editor since the start of February. However, when Mike returns, I han...

Re: This week's issue Take 2
Last week's Beano has a printing error on the cover, and unfortunately it resulted in both WHSmith and Tesco failing to put the new issue on the shelves today. The error? The recall date says April 12 instead of 11. But beano.com clearly says the new issue was due out today, not tomorrow. :x You're...

Re: The Art and History of the Dandy
Bananaman in Beeb wasn't a reprint - it was drawn by Barrie Appleby and written, as I remember, by someone in the Dandy. It was drawn TV style rather than Nutty-style because the mag was a TV tie-ins paper. As to the copyright line... no idea why we didn't use DCT other than to tie in with the anima...

Re: Now officially a majority-reprint comic
That's a great shame - Gnasher's Bite is really missing out on issues lately - I hope it doesn't get dropped! Gnasher's Bit(e) is a victim of circumstance at the moment. Nigel and Barrie are our only available Dennis artists just now and they deserve medals for the amount of work they have been del...

Re: Retro TV
I think I remember Shadows. Lots of good actors and I think PJ Hammond wrote an episode? I'm a Sapphire And Steel fan so I might track those down. Cheers. I love the Just William radio shows but as a kid the TV show never did it for me. However... for a tenner I might be tempted to give them another...

Re: Retro TV
Thriller is well worth picking up. I picked up Children Of The Stones on DVD a few years ago and it was every bit as eerie as I remember. The Feathered Serpent was another old favourite that stood up to time. We had great kids telly in the 70s.

Just to reiterate what Nigel said - Euan and Alan both retired. To call it anything else is just wrong.
