Re: Talking Pictures TV
Agree. I'd never heard of Mr. Winkle Goes to War before but have recently watched it three times on Talking Pictures TV. It stars Edward G. Robinson in a light hearted role. A wonderful film.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I came across complete years for The Topper of 1975 and 1976 which I'll put on ebay soon. All in VG to NM condition as I bought them when published. I no doubt have complete years for Beezer, Beano and Dandy 1975 and 1976, it's just a question of digging them out of storage.

Re: IPC Barbie comics from the 1980s
I came across Barbie no. 1 from 1985 today but the free gift bangle is in a separate bag with loads of other comic free gifts. I found a pink tubular plastic bangle, would that be the correct fee gift for this comic?

Phoenix could help but he has been absent from these pages for well over a year. Is anyone in contact with him?

Re: Trying to remember British comic series from 1959-1961 with story about giant spine throwing cacti
You mention Hotspur and Wizard but then say Eagle is closest to the look. I can only think of Boys' World which looked like The Eagle and published fantasy stories. The first issue was published in January 1963. And a December 1963 cover mentions a Tree of Terror story inside. (information from cove...

Dennis the Menace in the Topper
Going through some old Toppers I noticed Dennis appeared in a Beryl the Peril story. Issue 33 dated 19 September 1953. Drawn by David Law of course.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Daredevil was a silver age Marvel comic. I also had the Tales of Suspense with Iron Man's first appearance back in the sixties but I was into DC comics at the time and didn't hang onto it. Found a bundle of Busters today from 1974/75. About 25 issues. I'll put them on ebay as a bundle apart from an ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I have the first issue of Buster but have not put it on ebay as I always fear the buyer may claim they didn't receive it and eBay believes them and I have to refund them thus losing the comic and the payment. Most collectors are honest but with a high price comic I don't want to take the chance. Unt...

Re: Some interesting observations about collecting
Yes, a few years ago I got three black bin bags full of comics delivered by hand from an eBay seller. Must have been over 300 comics for about £100. 60s to 80s UK comics including Cor!! #1 which I had been after as my brother's mates took away some of my comics in the early 70s including Cor!! #1.

Re: Not just any old East London pie and mash shop
My local Manzes closes next year. I'll have to go to Goddards in nearby Greenwich for my fix. A privilege for the Southwark Borough newspaper to have a Lewisham Borough story on the cover.

Re: Talking Pictures TV
Trailers on Talking Pictures yesterday show that The Beverly Hillbillies and Bonanza are coming to the channel at the beginning of March, as is Stingray. I grew up in the sixties and watched them all first time round. Beverly Hillbillies very funny. Back then there was a western series on practicall...
