Re: WHY DID `ODHAM'S FAIL?
I would have loved to get all 5 'Power Comics' but I could only afford one- in 1964 it was WHAM! (of course), 1966 SMASH! and 1967 POW! By 1968 it was SMASH! again. Once or twice I managed to get all 5 in one week- the week The Avengers meet The Minotaur story was in Terrific and Spider-Man vs Elect...

It won't.Digifiend wrote:Yeah, Xtreme killed the Dandy. The 2010 revamp was great, but too little too late. I'd hate to see the Beano meet the same fate.

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
I mentioned to someone the other day that When the Beano came out in 1938 it was 2d in old money and by 1968 was only 3d (or 4d). So a penny or tuppence hike in thirty years. Nowadays magazine and comic increase by ten shillings a step. But then a weekly wage in 1938 was probably a fiver whereas no...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
Having no idea nowadays of page rates, I can't comment on what creators earn as compared to the '60's, but from what I learned from pros a decade or so ago, creator rights when they started were supposed to enable writers and artists to earn more and keep their work after publication. That must mea...

Re: What comics DIDN'T you buy today?
As regards cheap comics from the seventies and such, there is something to consider why they are more expensive now in comparison: I imagine that artists/writers command a larger fee than they did in the happy times. And, I'm quite sure, other factors will also have an impact on overheads. So, can'...

Re: What's in store for The Beano?
The same fate as Dandy... it's inevitable. Sorry to be pessimistic but... the annuals will still carry on the torch for a short duration. Enjoy while you can. I'd like to point out that either 'Geoff42' or me has no idea what he's talking about. How does anyone construe 'exciting times ahead' as cl...
