Re: What comics did you buy today?
I was really happy with my purchases yesterday.
I managed to get a copy of Marvel's Daredevils #1 with free gift from 1981
Blackhawk #1 by T&P from 1951 (image below)
World of Wonder #1 with free gift poster - 1970 (image below)
Toby #1 - 1921 with artwork by W Heath Robinson
I also picked up some great early DCT comic gifts - All five of 'The King's' giveway brochures from the DCT big 5 in 1937 celebrating the King's coronation (image below). Managed to pick them up at a great price too!

I almost forgot, I also managed to get the complete set of 6 DCT Adventure tinplate ships from 1927. 6 bids from 4 bidders in the last 15 seconds made it all the better to win these as although I've known about them for some time via Derek's book, I've never seen any sold before. Great price for these old tinplate gifts as the trains from Modern Boy usually go for over £10 each.Adam Eterno wrote: I also picked up some great early DCT comic gifts

Nice find! I can't tell from the photo, but are they flat or embossed?Adam Eterno wrote:I almost forgot, I also managed to get the complete set of 6 DCT Adventure tinplate ships from 1927. 6 bids from 4 bidders in the last 15 seconds made it all the better to win these as although I've known about them for some time via Derek's book, I've never seen any sold before. They are mainly flat with a little embossing. They all have two tags at the bottom which you bend to let them stand freely. Here are some more pictures from the listing as they won't arrive for a couple of days yet. I've already made a space for them to go on show!Lew Stringer wrote: Nice find! Yea I liked these, but didn't want to go as high as you evidently! lol.
I didn't actually know it was the full set or I might've gone higher, glad you snagged them, they'll look nice on display.

I only realised when I checked Derek's book before bidding. It makes a change for me to bid more than you!koollectablz wrote:Yea I liked these, but didn't want to go as high as you evidently! lol.

Aaaaaah, it was you that beat me to those then! Nice win. I'd be interested in what exactly the additions at the beginning of the volume werekoollectablz wrote:The first 26 issues of Rocket from 1923.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
My Jerry Robinson book arrived yesterday. In the flea market I picked up a couple of Boy's World Record Albums, 7 inch discs that play at 33rpm. One is Songs of the Range and the other is Christmas Family Carols. They are numbered 2 and 3 respectively. I couldn't find no. 1. My mate Steve checked his book of Boy's World but could find no mention. Anyone here know owt about 'em?

Well now, here’s the thing, I’d assumed that they are cut out from the actual comics themselves, as one bit is obviously from a cover (though that bit might be from a later or duplicate issue) - my concern is more that the one picture refers to a story that is listed in the contents - so that’s either cut from the bound in comic, cut from a duplicate issue, or was a free gift type of pic given away with that issue.
The guy went through the whole volume and said every issue was complete...
But yea, we shall see. Nice item though, never even had a single issue before. If they are all complete I’ll probably have them re-bound - only real question being do I include the inserts at the start? Very tempting...
Re: What comics did you buy today?
Bought the latest collection of Corpse Talk from the pages of the Phoenix - this one is called "Groundbreaking Women" and all the characters included are women. It's really excellent, I laughed out loud more than once.
jintycomic.wordpress.com/ Excellent and weird stories from the past - with amazing art to boot.
