D.C. Thomson are launching a Danger Mouse magazine on Wednesday 20th July based on the new version of the TV series. It'll include a mixture of strip and features.

Or, as he's known on Gaelic t.v., Donnie Munro. The DM on his breast has to stand for something as neither word translates into the initials.

It looks very slick and professional going by the cover, however it looks like another generic, faceless media tie-in that is swamping the newsagent shelves.

I am not knocking the standards of artwork, etc--it is very good-----but sadly this is a sign that even DCT are moving towards a more overtly commercial product, and away from their own quirky creations that stood them in such good stead for decades.


Material like this makes the world more homogenous with everything looking much the same: but companies exist to make money, and who am I to argue with their strategy?

Such has always been the case in business. Thomsons joined the comics market in the late 1930s because Amalgamated Press were having great success with comics. Today, the licensed-themed magazine is popular so it would be crazy for them not to do publications like that.

Yes, those traditional comics did indeed stand them in good stead for decades, but it's also been decades since those days. Comics such as Sparky, Topper, Hotspur etc faded away through lack of support.

Buy comics and spread the word and you'll be doing your bit to keep them alive.
