Request for help with DCT 30s free gift

Post by Hen Broon »

I would be grateful for any help with the coloured envelopes cards were given away in during the 30s.

I have picked the Prize cards - secrets of cricket , boys of all nations & punishment cards given away in 1936 but there are a few to choose from.

Is there a colour of envelope for each of the big five comics or were they given away a different colour each week over all five comics or was it more random ?

Some of the envelopes have comic names written on them in pencil,
Orange - Skipper , Brown - Rover & Pink - Adventure

Hi Hen. As far as I am aware the different colours were to avoid the packers of the free gift cards from mixing up similar gifts, either from title to title or from week to week. The cards would usually be put into the envelopes by a different packer to the one who would then put it in the relevant boys' paper.
