Financial Times article on collecting comics

Post by comicmad »

There was an interesting full page article in the FT Money Section of the Financial Times last Saturday (14 October) about collecting vintage comics from the perspective of the collector and dealer Phil Shrimpton, together with a photo of him with some of his collection. The article gave some advice on collecting comics as an investment, and it's good to see an upmarket newspaper give coverage to comics as a hobby and long term investment. I wonder whether other people here have seen this article and if so what they thought of it.

The article is still online:

Pity it only dwells on comics as objects of financial value rather than bothering to mention any other attraction as well. They might as well be talking about ceramics or stamps.

Still what can one expect from the FT?

Quite interesting though for someone like me who has a cupboard full of comics/annuals but not given any thought to costings.

Makes me yearn for Ebay again, just got three months before my self inflicted ban to raise money for myself is over!

I know this post is 16 years old but the link to the article no longer works.
Here is one that does:
