Well, I've finally had to subscribe to receive my weekly fix of thrill power. A few weeks ago, my local newsagent closed and my only avenue to 2000 ad and Judge Dredd Megazine was closed. There is a nearby WH Smiths which doesn't sell either... but then, I reserve an inborn bitterness towards this chain, so I ain't too bothered. Shame though as this is the first time since 2000 ad began that I am not able to buy it from a local shop. Sign of the times, hey?

I get mine from Central City Comics in Ipswich, these days. Our local newsagent closed last year.

slowly catching up with the weekly progs. Up to 1944; since subscription, I haven't opened any of the received bags. Judge Dredd Megazines are also still in their poly bags. I'll get there in good time... so much history to read and record... unless fate has something nasty in store for me, I will endeavour to catch up to the present... now, where's that Dandy Annual I bought over a month ago

Until up to 20 years ago, I always bought 2000AD from a shop (first WHSmiths and then various newsagents). When the one I was using closed, I decided to go to mail order and have done so ever since.

Still, I remember the time as a young nipper and my dad would call in at his local newsagents on the way home from work every Saturday to pick up my comics. Fond memories.

it wouldn't surprise me if at least 50% of 2000 ad sales were reaped from subscriptions nowadays considering its lack of presence on a newsagent's shelf.

how are they packaged? is it in a decent envelope or cheap plastic like the beano which ensures every copy i receive is bent or torn or both if im lucky

For me, both 2000AD, Judge Dredd Megazine and possibly Doctor Who Comic come in a thin envelope. Panini's Wolverine & Deadpool comes in a thicker brown envelope.

2000 ad and Judge Dredd subscriptions are sent out in cheap plastic bags with a bit of paper; not good for protection but, so far, my copies have been unaffected.

Same as beano and all mine the last few months have been creased or torn i even had a go at the post man once who i caught folding it in half so he prob does it on purpose now.

Bri, your postie seems to be the key to your grievance. I'm sure a report would put him in place, considering the post office is under siege with competition. Every time you receive a damaged copy, complain and reiterate that your fellow members on UK Comics are not having this problem. Deal with this arsehole once and for all

Sorry, I did mean to say "thin PLASTIC envelope". Commando also comes in a thin plastic bag.

There has been literally only a couple of times that 2000AD or Judge Dredd Megazine have got ripped and I had to buy replacement copies for my collections.
