Identify the artist?

Sorry, bet this'll be an easy one for you lot. He painted a lot of covers for The Champion annual over the years. I'm assuming he started his career before WW2 and I see his illustrations in Eagle in the early 60s. The cover and interior illos are from 1950.

I'm pretty sure that's the amazing R. Simmons: the supreme master of shading and texture with a pen (...though I can't remember what the 'R' stands for at the moment! :roll: ).

From memory the R stood for Ronald. He was the Champion heading block and cover artist par excellence for over twenty years.
