Original art sizes

For those of you interested in the technicalities of comics, here's a comparison between my original artwork and the published version:

When you visit the blog, click on the image to see it larger. (That probably goes without saying but I still get comments saying the images are too small because they don't know clicking enlarges them.)

Great in-depth description of the techniques involved regarding preparing finished originals for preperation to print, Lew, and very refreshing to see that you more than likely prefer the freedom offered by drawing within larger frames [or space].

A modern 'boon' I reckon is the ability to paste in detailed elements drawn larger [and thus more comfortably] even within smaller-scale 'standard' BEANO artwork these days---I assume this sort of approach goes on these days?

Or put it this way: I would certainly utilize this technology, if I were drawing for DCT in 2013.

Yes, some artists work like that. I prefer to draw everything by hand if I can. If it's a repeat panel (with something needing to be exactly the same) I might paste in some elements but I'm old school so it feels like cheating.

And of course, since you don't send physical artwork any more, you can draw 8 up if you really want as long as it's been reduced to the right size before it's e-mailed.

I've never been asked to reduce it to printed size. I've been e-mailing artwork to publishers for over 10 years in the same size I draw it. My feeling is they prefer to reduce it themselves, just as they used to reduce prints of original art years ago.

In fact I often refuse to read these ones on principle.....more honest to use a lightbox!
