Just to say that I have written a review of this very readable and interesting academic book about British girls' comics, and posted it to the Jinty blog.

It's a great book, well worth the read. I don't know how it compares to other reference books as it's not straightforwardly one of those (and anyway I haven't actually looked at many reference books). A reasonable comparison would be to Martin Barker's books, so if you were interested in those, then this is definitely worth getting hold of. That is, it's not a book about girls comics so much as it is a book about how people talked and thought about girls' comics at the time, and how they do so nowadays (if you get them started, because most women who were readers of these comics have buried them in their childhood as things of the past).

“Remembered Reading: Memory, Comics and Post-War Constructions of British Girlhood“, by Dr Mel Gibson; ISBN 9789462700307, published by Leuven University Press, June 2015. Reviewed by Jenni Scott.

I have posted a follow-up to the review, with some further thoughts prompted by reading the book.
