Alternatively (if you can find a copy) Eclipse published this nice selection of stories from the original, Simon & Kirby editions of Young Love and Young Romance - including their famous study of anti-semitism 'Different!' (which, remarkably, never once spells out what it is that makes the heroine's family different!)

Interesting - the selection of stories is completely different from the Eclipse book. Thanks for flagging it up Lew, I might order that myself. :)

These 'True Life' comics do not show up that often so for anyone interested that has not seen them here are a few early examples.
They still make for a good read they are of a very high standard with well balanced stories and nice art.

I had quite a few of those but sold them on ebay a few years ago. The Thomson ones were all new stories but another company - possibly Fleetway - featured reprints from American Comics reduced in size for picture library format. I kept those as it is nice to have the art in pure black and white like the original art.

The AP/Fleetway picture libraries either contained original material or reprinted earlier issues in the series. It's notable that those early romance titles were aimed at adult women and featured some quite mature subjects. Presumably these examples are pre-decimal Australian editions as the first issues were priced at 9d in the UK. Oddly enough a lot of the picture libraries available in Britain which reprinted American material originated in Australia.

That's interesting Matrix. In fact Australia played an important part in the development of British picture libraries as the very first issues of AP's Cowboy Comics Library in 1950 actually repackaged material that had been written and drawn in the UK but printed in Australia in a comic book format that was chosen specifically for the Antipodean market.
