I wasn't sure about Jane - Model Miss either. She and Mary Jo could get an honourable mention. What do others think about what should get the last three spots? I haven't actually seen Hetty in the House of Secrets, so I can't evaluate it all that well. The Fairground of Fear is one that sticks with me, but I don't know if it's fair to judge on that basis.

Roughly half of the thirteen possibles, the non-Thomson stories, I can't comment on because I haven't read them. Of the ones I have read, I favour Hetty In The House Of Secrets. My least favourite, which I wouldn't even put forward for inclusion in a list of 100 Honourable Mentions, is Skeleton Corner. To my way of thinking, it is just too lightweight. I remember thinking when I first saw it that it must be a filler, used only because the editorial staff had no decent serial ready.

I read through the Top 99 list this morning, and it struck me that there are quite a few titles there that haven't actually been discussed. Obviously I'm not suggesting any major review at this late stage, Tammyfan, but could you possibly think of one that could drop out to allow the inclusion of The Fairground Of Fear? I also believe that a reread of its posted summary, comparing its fear-factor with that in Skeleton Corner, will reveal their relative strengths.

Phoenix: maybe I could reconsider Cinderella Spiteful or Two-Faced Teesha. Personally, I like The Fairground of Fear better than those two.

Not really, Tammyfan. I've no strong feelings either way about any that I haven't commented on before.

Must be loads we haven't considered either. For example, I have started thinking of a few from Jinty, such as The Forbidden Garden. A dystopian world where humanity has wiped out all plant life. Then Laika finds a fertile patch of soil and uses it to grow a flower for her dying sister Valli. She has to do it against the face of breaking a few laws and imprisonment if discovered, blackmail, her whole family being demoted to the dreaded C Block (the C must stand for Crap, judging by the state it is in), eventually going on the run from the law, and being attacked by wild dogs, cats and rats. And all the while it is a race against time - can Valli stay alive long enough to receive her flower? All brought to us with brilliant artwork from Jim Baikie.

We can always consider new options or reconsider some of the ones we already have; the first draft of the 100 will not be the the final one.
