Bad time to leave, Peter... Jamie's Fish-Head Steve is starting in this week's issue and he says himself on his blog that it's one of the most fun projects he's ever worked on :D

As for how its doing, I think you'd have to go directly to the DFC subscriptions department to answer that question - no figures have been made public yet, at least not as far as I'm aware (if anyone can tell me differently, please do!)

Eh? No idea. I don't work for The DFC. I'm pleased to see Jamie, Laura, Gary and Emma in there though, improving the comic no end IMHO.

So, any news on DFC lately? Is it selling? How's the quality keeping up? Are they planning annuals or books?

I ask because this past weekend I was doing one of my classes and a 9 year old kid (well, his Dad) told me they got the DFC every week and liked it. This, obviously, was A Good Thing.

The less good thing was that this brings to a total of four the number of DFC readers I've met since it came out. The other three were all pupils at the Cartoon Museum in London, where you might expect more of a likelihood of that happening.

Given that I have been in dozens of schools from Inverness to Barnstaple in the past few months and that the DFC has never been mentioned, I'm wondering whether they're doing anything to keep themselves in the public consciousness.

I'm assuming, for example, they'll be at BICS in a couple of weeks and taking advantage of that publicity opportunity? And that their artists are part of the Harrods exhibition? And that they're advertising a DFC subscription as the Ideal Christmas Present, tied in with a special Xmas edition full of jumping-on points for new readers?

Fingers crossed for the last hope of British weekly comics.

Am a subscriber and my two boys (10 and 8) love it. Already they are asking if some of the earlier strips are coming back soon so a kind of 'loyalty' is building (Good Dog, Bad Dog, Mo-Bot High, Super Animal Adventure Squad were favourites)...

In the current issues they like Sneaky (well done Laura!), and they really laughed at the first episode of Jamie Smart's Fish-Head Steve. Prince of Baghdad is going down well but they (and me) are struggling to get into Mezolith... They enjoy the puzzles (Horse of A Different Colour and Puzzle Yourself Stupid) but, strangely as they love Derek The Sheep, they are indifferent to Gary Northfield's Little Cutie...

Overall, both they and I enjoy it and I notice they will have a special 'Hallowe'en' issue in a few weeks. Makes me look forward to the 'Christmas' issue ... hope it'll be like a Christmas comic of the past: snow-tinged titles and big slap-up feeds at the end of each and every strip!!

Ah, snow tinged titles and slap up feeds, yes!

I so love my Christmas issues I once had an exhibition of them, when I shared offices. We had them framed up the corridors and staircases throughout December. There was a Lion, at least one Valiant, Cor, Buster (quite a few Busters), my 2000ADs (from when they used to bother with Christmas), an old Mickey Mouse. Turns out I have loads of Christmas issues.

Sigh, must dig them out of the box this Christmas too. Is this a good idea for a Christmas book for the nostalgia market? I think so.

yeah Peter, come back on board and subscribe! Fish-Head Steve is the greatest thing since battenburg cake (unbiased opinion)!

The DFC is really finding its stride now I think. Mezolith, Sneaky and the ever-unnervingly beautiful Monkey Nuts show such a great range of styles.

Oh and yeah look forward to the xmas issue! They made me do a five-page xmas strip or else they said they'd fire me. Okay that's a slight exaggeration, but it implies it's going to be so christmassy the envelope will be filled with snow.

I've recieved issue 20....so a shame it didn't continue from when I left off at 13..

Anyway I love the zanyiness of fish head very funny.
The adventure stories other than the weird one at the beginning do not work for me..
Also nice cover Gary.....The Dandy should take note...

Sausage and Carrot doesn't work for me or the crab lane crew or Vern and Lettuce.it just shows how good Gary...Jamie..Laura (like the caterpillar in the corners!) are...Jamie please help these cartoon writers...if they are going to do zany......they need to be much funnier like you..

You have inspired me Jamie..
may your zany stay zany!!
