Issue Zero is here...

Post by -MikeD- »

A new launch title is always exciting! First thoughts - high production values and an interesting mix of styles. In fact, it reads a lot like a copy of The DFC but looks and feels like the Dandy just after it's relaunch last year.

I'll post again when I've had a chance to more than skim read it.

Ooh, got ours too! My son will be pleased when he gets in from school as he's been looking forward to it (getting the promotional emails helps whet his appetite).

Looks very sleek, very DFC (a good thing). Let's hope it does rise and survive for some time.

Also, they sent me two issue zeros, so maybe I did get a free one for subscribing after all despite my moanings over on the general forum

edit: are they selling this in the shops then? Is it not subscription only?

does anyone know if the stuff in this preview issue is gonna be reprinted in later issues because preview issues I have read in the past usually consist of reprints or the stuff is later reprinted.

According to Lew's blog, Oink's preview issue in 1986 featured material that was never reprinted. It was given free with three other comics and included the first Tom Thug.

It seems Phoenix will be the same.

There was a half page article about The Phoenix in today's Times. You have to subscribe to read the Times web version now so its a good job I'm around.

Also a mildly amusing (semi whimsical?) Giles Coren piece about comics:

I got a new printer with a Christmas gift coupon so future newspaper articles I copy will, I hope, not have that irritating squeezed effect on some words. I think its where the scanning bar doesn't move smoothly across the screen. It sometimes jams noisily so overdue for replacement.

I just noticed on the phoenix website a nice little video of issue zero been printed at the printers,a nice little insight at some of the work involved.
