I guess the public gets the newspapers it deserves. If they'd rather save a few pence in order to read some dumbed-down xenophobic tat then some publishers are always going to exploit that.

Its funny that The Daily Star speaks disparagingly of Andy Capp while constantly filling its front cover with Jordan and Pete Andre stories. Expect weeks of Big Brother covers to come. Even when very little actually happens. (I've never watched it by the way).

They usually get one of the BB girls to sign up with them exclusively so they can exploit their images/love lives as often as possible. It sells their rag and makes the wannabes feel they're more important than they really are. Easier than going out and researching some news I suppose.

Even if I could get the Sun, the Star, the Mirror and the Express, AND get change from £1, I would still only buy The Guardian. I do have some values.

I've never heard of the Lip party, where's your question mark and what has your post got to do with newspapers? Go to bed, steelclaw, it's late and you've obviously been overdosing on liquor. :D

You get what you pay for, and the Star (the cheapest non-free newspaper in the UK) has gone downhill in recent years. I buy the Sun (which I can get for 15p at the moment because they sent me some coupons) and if I can't get it or there's an offer on (free DVDs usually) I sometimes buy the Mirror. It's the only red top which can match The Sun IMHO. There's no sense comparing them to the former broadsheets, which I only buy when there's a decent offer on (like the Guardian's comic promo).

If the Star is charging 10p, there's no way they can make a profit on it. The Express is obviously propping it up. This won't last.

Cripes, and I was starting to think that everyone on this board was a right-wing reactionary! ;)

I agree with Phoenix. The Guardian is the only paper for me. I might pick the Mirror up if I want a quick read, or The Times if I fancy a (right-leaning) change, but The Guardian is the most aligned with me in style, content and political leanings.
