What bugs me is that the Sunday redtops cost a pound each whereas the Saturday versions are 60-70p with a similar page count. Why the price increase? The only Sunday I buy is the Post but I don't get that much nowadays since they changed the layout of the Broons/Oor Wullie strips so you can no longer cut them out and fold them into a half tabloid section.

The price difference is probably due to a higher page count, supplements, and the fact that the Sunday paper has a seperate editorial staff. The Sun on Sunday will apparently keep costs down, by having Dominic Mohan edit the paper 7 days a week.

But the Saturday Sun has a 12 page Goals section, a 12 page racing section, Fabulous magazine and a TV listings mag. Probably a bigger page count than the Sun on Sunday although Fabulous is now going back to Sundays. I wonder if the Sun on Sunday will be issue 1 or keep the numbering of the normal Sun. If it starts at number 1 why? Why isn't the Saturday Sun numbered separately? Why is Sunday different? Answers on a postcard.

The Sun doesn't use issue numbers anyway. Super Goals will probably appear in the Sunday Sun (there will be football reports to print after all). Look at the Saturday and Sunday versions of the Mirror and the Daily Star. Both of them have larger page counts on Sunday than on Saturday, it'll be the same for the Sun.

I expect the Sun on Sunday to have a lot of the same features News of the World used to have (motors, holidays, property, finance, etc)... of course, these are also split across the other six days, just like the way the Mirror and Star do it. Unlike them, I expect the Sun on Sunday to lack a TV guide though, as News of the World didn't have one when it closed (it just had the listings for Sunday printed in the paper) and it's probably too short notice to print another magazine (so expect Fabulous to make no reference to being with the Sunday paper until Sun on Sunday's second issue).

Maybe The Sun on Sunday will come with fake dog turds, alien shooter guns, frisbees and so on to justify the price increase!

Daily Star Sunday aired a TV advert saying that they're only charging 50p. I expect that'll be to match the price of The Sun. The Sunday Mirror and People will probably cut their prices too.

EDIT: Confirmed that the Saturday and Sunday editions of The Sun will be 50p.

Well, no price reductions for any other paper except the Daily Star Sunday from what I saw. The Mirror and People were both still £1. Won't be surprised if it's a different story next week though, as they'll surely lose sales.

There's a Wallace and Gromit strip in today's Sun. Presumably, either they asked the artist to do seven strips a week instead of six, or it'll no longer appear on Saturdays. Surprisingly, there's no Hagar the Horrible.

The Sunday Mirror was 50p in London, according to yesterday's issue as I haven't been out today.

Saw footage on BBC News showing the People was also 50p. They seemed to think it was the standard price (said it was a price war - one paper reducing the price isn't a price war in my book), but it's not, it's just in London by the looks of it. If Trinity Mirror find that their papers lost readers, it's their own fault. There's no excuse for postcode lotteries. The price should've been the same nationally.

Word is that the Sun on Sunday will be 50p for the rest of the year. They reckon the People could be a casualty of the Sun's appearance on Sunday.

Why would it be? The Sun Sunday is a straight replacement for the News of the World.

Reminds me of an old joke from back in the day re Newspapers in general. The Times is for your Upper Classes , The Guardian is for your Middle Classes and The Sun has big t*ts
