Battle comics on ebay
Does anyone else think this descripition for these Battle comics is misleading or is it me. Does he think that Battle ended with Battle and Valiant?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123
I sent this messgage
"When you say complete do you mean Battle from 1975 to 1988 when the last one was"
(Worse spelling then me)
He sent these 2 messages.
The complete Battle weekly from the very first up to the very first Battle/Valient of which there are 55 of those too, Battle annuals etc, sold as a job lot and you can pick them up if you like
as rhe listing atates i could not be more precise and you can pjck up if you want
Could someone please send another message to this person and point out he is not selling the complete Battle comic collection.

I think perhaps he does, steelclaw. My reading of his advert is that he is putting up for auction all issues of Battle from number 1 as far as that paper's annexation of Valiant, plus the first fifty-five issues of the combined title Battle And Valiant. In addition there are the annuals he mentions. I think we need to cut the guy some slack as he's obviously new on the scene (No feedback = probably no sales yet), and he may well be assuming that when Battle became Battle And Valiant, that was effectively the end of Battle. I suspect he just got fed up with the paper and didn't buy any more issues after number 55 of the combined title. I have no idea whether his starting price is reasonable or not, but it will be interesting to see what his reserve is, always assuming anybody gets anywhere near it.steelclaw wrote:Does he think that Battle ended with Battle and Valiant?

That was of course the impression IPC always wanted to give when "your two favourite comics join forces", - that they'd form a brand new comic. Most of us were never fooled by it because we knew if we hung around long enough the co-star of the logo would gradually get smaller and disappear, leaving the parent title free to gobble up another comic.Phoenix wrote: he may well be assuming that when Battle became Battle And Valiant, that was effectively the end of Battle.
(The only exception to this that I can think of was Beezer and Topper which did in fact start again from No.1 as a genuinely new comic in a new format.)

Thomsons did the same thing, Lew, when they combined Mandy with Judy in May 1991 as Mandy And Judy, or M&J as it became known. This combined title started at number 1 and ended six years later with issue 315. Also it had a larger format than either of the original titles.Lew Stringer wrote:The only exception to this that I can think of was Beezer and Topper which did in fact start again from No.1 as a genuinely new comic in a new format.

Re: Battle comics on ebay
After a swift look, I assume that this is a run from 14 Feb 1976 until 4 Jun 1977. So, not a big run, but big enough to warrant the price that it is listed at (Personally, I would work towards £50 and be happy with that, rather than start there and have an unknown reserve).
I agree that the title is misleading, but he does go into detail in the description, so I can forgive him for the dodgy title.

I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Re: Battle comics on ebay
Presumably the price includes postage, which will be quite a bit for 70 or so comics plus the annuals, so starting at £50 seems reasonable to me.
The one thing that makes me wary is the condition is described as "excellent" but then he goes on to say they're "good and readable", which doesn't sound so impressive. I assume this might be due to inexperience though. The comics don't look too bad in the photo, although it might have been wiser if he'd added a few more photos, or a supersized shot. People might not be hasty to sling fifty plus quid at a zero rated seller on the evidence of one small photo.

Re: Battle comics on ebay
I notice that like other dealers he says, No returns accepted. Looking at the wider context, isn't it against the law for a seller to refuse returns, particularly if the items don't match that seller's description?

Careful guys, his ears are burning so much they might set fire to the Battles.

Yes, the Distance Selling Regulations stipulate that you can change your mind, cancel the contract and return the item for up to seven days after receiving it for any reason whatsoever. Goodness knows why Ebay allow sellers to put 'this seller does not accept returns' when the law says they must.

This is correct for online sales except online auctions which are specifically excluded.Raven wrote:Yes, the Distance Selling Regulations stipulate that you can change your mind, cancel the contract and return the item for up to seven days after receiving it for any reason whatsoever ...

Yes, sorry, you're right - although it depends on how the selling process occurs, and fixed price sales on Ebay - 'Buy It Now' items - wouldn't count as an auction.
Buyers also have more rights if the seller is a commercial trader rather than an individual.

I suppose that's to discourage people who buy comics, read/scan them, then want to return them.Phoenix wrote:I notice that like other dealers he says, No returns accepted. Re: Battle comics on ebay
The persons still trying to sell these Battles at £125 now, with the terrible description his given for them I'm not surprised he hasn't sold them.
Re: Battle comics on ebay
He obviously doesn't read this forum then... the fool. If he did, he'd have known £50 was nearer what he should be aiming for. All the guy had to do was a simple Google search to find out what similar items had sold for in the past.... You should always research your product before selling it. I bet people have had bargains when people underestimated the value of goods, just like the way this one being over-valued is stopping it selling.
