Comics named after beasts, - Lion, Tiger, Jag..... But before them all was ...Butterfly!

I've identified some artists in this issue, but not all. Can anyone help?

There is bound to be some kind of copy shop in your neck of the woods, Steve, that will be able to scan A3 pages and reduce them to A4 for you. I had to have half a dozen done fairly recently at one in Liverpool, and if I remember correctly, I paid £9. That's probably £15 in London money!!

No, just an A4 scanner. I do them in two or three scans and patch the images together in Photoshop.

Nice to see a piece on Butterfly Lew. It lasted considerably longer than you stated though as it was first published in Sept 1904 and then went through several 'new', but always consecutive series, until its demise in 1940. For instance for some time it was the senior half of 'Butterfly and Firefly' before its 1925 incarnation. 'Firefly' having originally been Fred Cordwell's title 'Fun and Fiction' before it pupated into 'Firefly' in Feb 1914 a title that then ran continually, although in two seperate series, until Mar 1917 when it was merged with 'Butterfly' to give us this unique flying insect double bill.
It is always difficult to spot that artists responsible on strips in this period but I'll have closer look later on. The adventure strip is the work of Charles Montford though,
In fact it was in one of these earlier incarnations that an issue of 'Butterfly' in the Edwardian period had the, perhaps unique, distinction of being a blood soaked exhibit in the murder trial of a little boy.

Thanks for the info, Ray. I used Denis Gifford's book as a reference for the dates. I forgot he gave different listings for relaunches. I'll correct it later.
