Collecting Kids of Stalag 41
I would like to build up a collection of Kids of Stalag 41. The trouble is, I don't have much wherewithal to track down back issues, which don't look easy to find anyway. Are there any scans available somewhere, or perhaps a DVD with a compilation?
Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Good choice it is a great strip. Im just after purchasing Jet no.1 which has their first appearance in colour.
You might find some Buster and Jet dvds on e bay. However they are unofficial and personally I am uncomfortable in supporting that type of venture as it is piracy.
Besides you would be much tracking down the original comics as they are more fun to read on paper than a computer screen.

Ah, you like Stalag 41 too? Nice to meet a fellow fan!wilsia wrote:Good choice it is a great strip. Im just after purchasing Jet no.1 which has their first appearance in colour.

The first Stalag 41 strip was posted on the other Stalag 41 thread here, so at least we have that.
Thank you for the tips. I am still concerned about cost and rarity of the issues, so if there is another option available I am
listening. Maybe one day it will be available online....

Incidentally, Tony Goffe, who drew most of the Stalag 41 strips, also did the art for this nicely energetic Cadbury advert around the same time:

Mr Goffe had loads of work on in this era, I had a couple of Wacky Races adaptations he done in book form, in which no real attempt to hide his style was evident.

I was googling for Buster comic DVDs and came across this link. http://www.yootha.com/buster-comics--an ... k-62-p.asp I guess it looks all right; no piracy. You can get discs of other titles on this site too, such as Whoopee and Whizzer. You can even get a box set.

Box sets even. Wow! Look, Tammyfan, just because collections such as these are proliferating, and are available for purchase all over the place, including at official comic fairs, the fact is that unless they are produced by the companies that produced the comics in the first place, or under a legitimate license, they are pirate copies.Tammyfan wrote:I was googling for Buster comic DVDs and came across this link. http://www.yootha.com/buster-comics--an ... k-62-p.asp I guess it looks all right; no piracy. I see there are no DC Thomson titles in their compilations, but it's interesting that IPC, Egmont, Marvel, the BBC, ITV, the Dan Dare Corporation, Gerry Anderson etc are seemingly turning a blind eye to it. The company boasts of selling many hundreds of those things so they must be profiting from it. Publishers tend to allow 'fair use' of selected pages for review purposes.... but to republish complete comics and on such a scale? Seems risky to me.Phoenix wrote:Box sets even. Wow! It's entirely up to the publishers to take action of course but although I hate piracy I'm starting to think that if the copyright holders aren't going to care why should we concern ourselves about it?

I have loads of pirated comics on disc, --I'm not proud of this-----I just got fed up waiting on officially-sanctioned sets of comics on disc, years down the line the publishing houses seem slow to capitalize on this potential money-spinner [discs are very cheap to make once the scans are stored in computer.]

Personally I refuse to buy them on the grounds that it would be hypocritical of me to complain if/when they get around to pirating my strips.ISPYSHHHGUY wrote:I have loads of pirated comics on disc, --I'm not proud of this-----I just got fed up waiting on officially-sanctioned sets of comics on disc, years down the line the publishing houses seem slow to capitalize on this potential money-spinner [discs are very cheap to make once the scans are stored in computer.]
Here's an idea for anyone tempted to download/buy pirated comics: why not write to the copyright owner instead and ask them to reprint the strips? If the "many hundreds" of people buying those discs did that, the publishers would see there's a legitimate market for reprint books.
