Issue Numbers Per Year And The 1974/5 Unpublished Strips

Post by jim244 »

Look -in was 52 issues a year, published every week.
Not entirely correct.
1971 (51)
1972 (52)
1973 (52)
1974 (50 - issues 51 and 52 produced but unpublished)
1975 (50 -issues 1 and 2 produced but unpublished) Ultimately this and the above led to 4 chapters of each picture strip never being published.
1976 (53)
1977 (52)
1978 (52)
1979 (49) - paper shortage due to industrial action led to 3 weeks unpublished but unlike in 74/75,the strips continued and issues were published as 5/6 for example. However the "Mind your language" strip lost a chapter.
1980 ( 52)
1981 (53)

Correction:1974 should have been 51 issues,not 52.
Even without the paper shortage, the 1974 run was planned at 51 issues.
According to Andy Davidsons' excellent book "Jaunt",issue 51 was published.
He doesn't state this implicitly but implies such in dating of issues.
According to my friend Ebay Steve, issue 51 did indeed exist but was an extremely limited run and less pages than a normal issue.
Personally,I have never seen this issue and am unconvinced that it was printed.
It's a mystery,urban myth or existed,uncertain.
Even Ebay Steve will confess that he never actually owned it.
If anyone from this fine forum can offer actual evidence that issue 51 1974 exists, please do so.
I don't believe it was ever printed but will be very happy to be proved wrong.

Correction Number 2:
As Look-In 1974 actually officially ran for 51 issues, there are 3 chapters unpublished of various strips, not 4 as previously stated.
Unless you believe issue 51 exists,in which case 2.

FINALLY....
I can reveal that both myself and other collectors that I have spoken to were wrong.
Look-in 1974 is 50 issues, therefore there are two missing issues only.
1 and 2 of 1975.
So 2 parts of each comic strip weren't published.
How do I know this??
