"MARVEL ALL COLOUR COMICS"

Post by Adam Eterno »

Does anybody know just how many titles there were in this range in the 70s please? I'm only interested in the UK titles that seem to be between 7p and 10p, but can't seem to find any detailed info on the web.

Would appreciate any info or directions where I can look as I've just bought a few #1s (Champions, Eternals, Captain Marvel and Howard the Duck) and it's got me wondering......

Thanks in advance

I think all the Marvel titles had this heading for the uk versions it was to differentiate them from the Mighty world Of Marvel, Spider-Man Comics weekly etc. I used to buy every Marvel title back then from Frank Dobson's Weird Fantasy shop in New Cross.

Hi

The Grand Comics Database has a category for this (http://www.comics.org/brand/2632/?page=1), though even a quick glance shows it's far from complete.

At http://www.wymann.info/comics/060-Pence ... iants.html you can find an article on British pence variants, which go back further than I'd thought, and coved more companies than I'd known.

Thanks for posting the "Variants" link, David. I'm old enough to remember seeing those early 9d DC's appearing in newsagents, but I seem to remember also that the 9d stamped ones were to be found for a much longer time than the article suggests.
Going a bit off topic, there were also Australian comics distributed in Scotland, and, I assume, England. These were not stamped with a British price and as they had their Aus. 6d or 9d price already printed on the cover and newsagents sold them for 6d or 9d. This was before Australia went decimal.

Really helpful, thanks David. These are exactly the kind of links I was looking for and bring back loads of memories. I didn't realise how many variants there were! I think I may have found a new area of comics to collect
