I wouldn't miss it for the world. Isn't it great that a single British title can have its own event. It makes me want to get all of my old progs out again and re-read the lot!

And Pat Mills and Kev O'Neill are going to launch their book Read 'Em And Weep at the event too.

I confess I never read 2000ad as a lad, but I'm interested in it as a title and I like the work that the creators have done (that I've read) elsewhere so I'm really excited about this event. Tickets on sale in just under 16 days time. I foresee a long day with much queuing, but what the heck, you're only 40 once.

I'm hoping some sort of schedule of events will also be released on 12th October so we can see what delights await us.

Not me, I'm afraid, Richard. I can summon up the fare and the entrance fee but unfortunately not the enthusiasm.

I left it too late to buy a ticket but I hope everyone has a great day! A milestone to be proud of. There aren't many UK comics that have reached 40 years, and 2000AD is still brilliant every week.

Here's something else; off the top of my head I think that 2000AD is the only UK comic to have run for 40 years without ever relying on reprints to pad out its page count. Or am I mistaken? (EDIT: Just been told via Tharg himself that it featured some reprint in the late 1980s. Ah well. I thought it might be a record breaker for a moment. Even so, it's featured far less reprint than any other UK comic to have lasted so long, so that's another thing 2000AD can be proud of.)

Maybe not reprint but it's certainly been rerunning the same old Dredd arc for the past forty years...

How many times can mega city one face a cataclysmic event without actually running out of citizens to kill off?

Just because it's new art doesn't mean the same tired old stories aren't 'reprint'.

It may well be that a majority of members might disagree with me but I have to say that I heartily approve of quality serials being reprinted for the benefit and pleasure of all those readers that have discovered any particular comic in the meantime. A gap of about ten years between printings would be ideal as most young readers would not then be irritated by the reappearance of a serial they had already read because by then they would either have moved on to other publications or simply be no longer reading their childhood favourites. For the majority of people there is a life beyond comics. Enthusiasts like us are very much in the minority. For the record my original comic/story paper reading lasted about a decade so I did see a number of reprintings during that period. I don't recall being particularly disappointed. I just read them again.
