Christmas Beano - £3.99!

Post by Digifiend »

Next week's Beano is £3.99. The most expensive issue ever, by more than a quid. Hope that price doesn't backfire with a drop of sales. It's the Christmas double issue, which is daft, as another issue will bne on sale before Christmas! Also, the Christmas Dandy Xtreme should be out tomorrow, but came out today instead. Again, another issue is due out before the day.

I remember back in the days when music papers like SOUNDS or NME used to deliver a Christmas 'special' that was always way more expensive: it was usually noticably larger than normal, with next to no advertising, and this is how they justified the extra cost....these issues were normally better than the usual edititions, however, though whether DCT have adopted this idea is anyone's guess.......

To be fair, it's 48 pages instead of 32, and there's a 10 piece "prank pack" with it. Not free though, that gift costs £1.29, in fact a little more because 32x2=64, so the page count falls short of double. They've done the same thing for the last four years (with different gifts), but the price has never gone above £3, let alone being a penny shy of £4. Pretty steep to be honest.

To me, this is steep......a lot of punters will pick up the actual annuals for a good bit less after Christmas.

Got the Dandy Christmas comic..

the best part of it was the 32 page Desperate Dan reprints book..by Jamie...worth buying just for this alone

the comic itself wasn't that good..hey I'm nearly 35 so not the target audience..
The Dandy in the past used to be for every age..

Still like Cuddles and Dimples and Desperate Dan..

Bring back Steve Bright for Bananaman,,I really miss his work in The Dandy..
the backgrounds in the new artist Bananaman are too samey..the panels don't vary much..as a guesss a computer tablet is being used...

Its the first time in a long time since I bought a Dandy Extreem..

Sorry Peter, but it wasn't. The Dandy has always been aimed at children.

I'm not a subscriber myself, but one other advantage of subscribing is that you get the comics earlier than everyone else, so you can tell us if there's any treats coming up (like the Bash Street Kids DS 2000 story) or sound the warning system if there's something we're not going to like (eg. Graeme Hall reprints).

£3.99 is very expensive for The Beano, but hopefully it will be good anyway.

Actually, I take the opposite viewpoint. I will drop hints sometimes, but I think it is a terrible shame to spoil surprises when non-subscribers have no way of reading it before Wednesday.

I agree, I don't like spoilers either, and I think you've got the exact right idea. However, dropping hints is fine by me, because it raises anticipation for those of us who have to wait until Wednesday or later.

Unfortunately, one thing that is likely is there won't be any Super School in the Christmas Beano - as far as I know Lew hasn't received a Christmas-theme script yet, though I could be wrong.

Sadly not, as I understand it was squeezed out due to a long story that's in the issue. No Christmas Super School this year, but I did do a Christmas Team Toxic in the Xmas Toxic which comes out next Wednesday.

(And a Christmas Suicidal Syd in the latest Viz. )

I meant and I stand corrected by Lew that The Dandy appealed to Adults and children a few years ago..
like The Beano appeals to wider audience today..the letter page proves this..

as said the comics are aimed at children..I'm just a big kid... :)

anyway nice to have the desperate Dan booklet in the Christmas Dandy...so a good move.

Lew I loved your Christmas canteen you did of Super School last year..

Thanks Peter, but I didn't put a canteen in the Christmas story. That was an earlier episode. :)

Don't worry mate, It's getting late.

In fact, the canteen was in the episode which introduced Bananagirl, who wasn't in the Christmas strip.
