Dennis and Gnasher Puzzles

Post by Lew Stringer »

One of my local newsagents had a big display of a new comic spread over its shelves today: Dennis and Gnasher Puzzles.

Unfortunately this full colour 68 page 10-times-a-year title is comprised of reprints from recent Dennis strips slightly reworded to segue into puzzles.

To be fair it's done as well as it could be considering the strips were not designed for this purpose. I'm sure kids who haven't already read the strips in Beano and the Dennis and Gnasher Annual will enjoy the concept but there's not a lot of incentive for regular Beano readers to buy it.

It had a free Dennis propelling pencil though, which will come in handy for drawing Super School.

Interestingly the comic is packaged by the company that does Puzzler, not DC Thomson.

Puzzler was bought out by DC Thomson in 2005.

I'm surprised at this magazine actually - the existing Puzzler kids mag, Quiz Kids, is only out bi-monthly.

Thanks Digi. I didn't know they'd acquired those mags.

I'm only assuming they're doing 10 issues a year. The subscription rate is for 10, and issue 1 goes off sale on March 26th, so it looks like it'll be a new issue every five weeks.

Saw this yesterday. Didn't buy it though. Ironic thing is, the newsagents I saw it in doesn't sell the Beano (nor BeanoMax)!

There was a counterpart back then - the Beano Comic Library Puzzle Book. That's where the puzzles came from for the early issues of Fun-Size Beano and Fun-Size Dandy.

Of course! Think I had a couple of those, now that you mention it!
