Pansy Potter first one to see on ebay..

Discuss or comment on anything relating to D.C.Thomson's second longest running comic. The home of Dennis the Menace. Has been running since 1938.

Quite chilling the war and the effect it had on The Beano..paper rationing...propaganda to lift morale..

The image in question is on Photobucket. So it'll probably stay up even after the auction is over, might as well post it here directly.

She's pretty much wrecked the Beano office!

The copy being sold would probably have been binned years ago if it wasn't so rare.

I've seen this page before---somewhere----eons ago, in the pre-internet era.

Great to revisit it though, and filled with charm and period wonder.

I'm sure most people will know this already but the Beano editor in this strip is just one dreamt up by artist Hugh McNeill and does not bear any similarity to anyone in the Beano office at the time, certainly not the actual editor George Moonie.
In fact it's quite possible that Hugh McNeill never met any of the Thomson editorial staff during his short tenure as an artist for the Beano as all his work was handled by his agents Kayebon at this time.

So you meant when she returned after the Wonderland series finished. Thanks. I see that the person through the wall gag was added, and it otherwise is basically the same script as the original one. Apart from the fact they swapped a penny for a sweet.

Topper Picture Book 1954

Produced a year prior to the first Topper Annual, this large format 16 page (plus covers) soft covered item features lovely illustrations of birds, beasts and fishes from around the world. Very much in keeping with the educational side of the weekly Topper comic.

OK, why is The Beano logo in what was then The Dandy colours? :? Of course, they did later use that colour scheme for the Beano comic libraries.
