Beano 2013

Post by fromthenorth »

What can we expect from The Beano in 2013?
Do you think Desperate Dan or any other Dandy characters might make the move over? - A more relaxed style like the Dandy? - Closure of BeanoMax?

We already know that Max is continuing for the forseeable future, but it will be getting some tweaks, including a currently unknown feature drawn by Lew Stringer.

There will probably be some changes in the weekly as well, since the editorial team changed recently. Funsize Funnies and the change of artist for Billy Whizz, was just the start.

As for Dandy characters, who knows? But considering the 2013 annuals, where Wayne Thompson's Bananaman appeared in the Dandy one and the more traditional Steve Bright version was in the Beano one, yet the classic style Dan appeared in the Dandy annual drawn by Nigel Parkinson, rather than Jamie Smart's modern version, and with Andy Fanton stating on Facebook that he'll be writing Dan for Ken Harrison to draw for the 2014 book, I think it's safe to say Dan isn't about to join the Beano. If he was going to move across, then both the annual and the digital Dandy would've probably used the Jamie version of Dan instead of the classic look.

My expectation that Wallace and Gromit was ending appears to be entirely wrong. It looks like the comic strip focus for now will continue to be a long original Beano All Stars story, a three-page W&G story, a Bananaman annual reprint, and one or two other Beano strips - this month, a Gnasher's Bite.

The comic features look interesting - this month they mix Steve Beckett and Lew Stringer! Other contributors include Stu Munro.
