What's in store for The Beano?

Just taking some time to catch up on my favourite comics pages and clocked this teaser on Nigel Parkinson's blog...

"Exciting times ahead for The Beano.
I wish I could say more but I just can't.
No, really"

Any thoughts, people?

Sold to Disney-Pixar maybe,

with mega-buck films of the comic characters?

Already ruled out in the comments on the blog.

Well, it's not a revamp - they only just altered the logo a couple of issues ago. Maybe there'll be some Bananaman Movie related announcements?

Dudley D Watkins brought out of frozen suspended animation [Walt Disney-like] after 46 years, and resumes his artwork where he left off.......Law, Reid and Nixon to follow?

There was an article on Licensing Biz a few week ago about that move. Aparrently it's 'early stages'. - http://www.licensing.biz/big-interviews ... man/042659

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a TV show, like the Beano 'movies' from the 90s.

The same fate as Dandy... it's inevitable. Sorry to be pessimistic but... the annuals will still carry on the torch for a short duration. Enjoy while you can.

I'd like to point out that either 'Geoff42' or me has no idea what he's talking about.
How does anyone construe 'exciting times ahead' as closure?

That headline was usually for mergers though. There's nothing for Beano to merge into, and even if there was it would be Beano's brand that would survive. Buster's final cover didn't use that sort of headline, it just said it was the last issue. Because it wasn't merging into anything.

Geoff, last I looked the Beano's sales were far healthier than the Dandy's were in it's final years. They're not even using any reprints at the moment (and haven't since Dandy's demise). Reprints = cost cutting, which would be a reaction to not making enough money.

For someone who reads humour comics, you appear to have zero sense of humour.

Good to know, digifriend. I don't wish to see either Beano or 2000 ad as only subscription digital formats. As a sidenote, i'm sure this format would be far cheaply to produce than physical print. Why wasn't Dandy shuffled into this format and, at least, persevere its presence?

It was, complete with limited animation and voice acting for Desperate Dan. Technical problems killed it.
