I'm not sure that George Low was the editor of Commando from the beginning. I'll check through my records to verify one way or another.
Re Albert Barnes he was certainly the longest serving editor that any of the D C Thomson comic papers ever had, editing the Dandy from 1937-1940 and then from 1946-1982, a total 39 years. For me, given how hands on he was in every aspect of the Dandy's production throughout its glory years, he was the consummate comic editor. His single-minded approach to the job in hand, publishing a great comic every week, left him open to charges of being more than a little intimidating but then he wasn't out to court popularity or ever pretended to be. All in all, a short, stocky genius of the editorial ilk.
