South Wales Echo condemns modern Dandy

Post by Lew Stringer »

The icWales website (collating news from various sources) reports that the South Wales Echo has condemned the "dumbing down" of the modern Dandy. It claims:

"Today?s Dandy is a picture book, no text, a three-minute read."

Sometimes I wonder if these journalists actually research their stories or just trot out an article to fill a word count. (As if. ;-)) Sure, he's familiar with the history of comics (more so than that recent Comics Britannia documentary) but if he'd actually followed the history of The Dandy he'd have noticed that the changes have been a long and gradual process. Instead, he jumps on the bandwagon to compare Dandy of 70 years ago to Dandy of today, as if the changes happened overnight.

"It didn?t take Dan long to get promoted to a full page, then the ultimate honour, page one."

Erm, it took Dan 47 years to attain "the ultimate honour, page one" (the cover).

South Wales Echo condemns modern Dandy

I was very disappointed to read that DAN is no long allowed to uproot trees with a single punch, LEW.......next, POPEYE will be denied the privelige of 'chinning' BLUTO,-----and since we are all being denied the sight of all these unwholesome acts,------
---------perhaps they are working on a DVD box-set of the 'WORLD at WAR' documentary series with HITLER completely digitally removed.........
