I put on the false beard, I looked for that all to familiar old friend that I hadn't seen for years. And yes there at the back of the comic shelf.....what the BACK I here you....we mustn't be defeated Dandy Fans I picked up those beautiful crisp comics & yes my friends I put them right at the front bold & beautiful for everyone to see. The limp set of Toxic magazines went to the back......at 18.30pm my wife suggested Fish & Chips for dinner yes my dear that would be wonderful & there opposite the chip shop were the dazzling lights of Tesco Express....the beard came out & yes The Dandy was Top shelf (Topless Dan I here you)...no but up the back AGAIN......The Halloween special magazine was swiftly removed from its place & yes again those beautiful bundles of fun were changed to the glory of front for everyone to see & marvel........
Tomorrow it will be WHSmith & Sainsburys & you my friends can be part of it. Up and down the country remeber one thing............
Your DANDY needs you............

Thanks a bunch. Could you not have put something that doesn't feature comic strips at the back instead? Toxic is still my main source of income.BeanoKev70 wrote:The limp set of Toxic magazines went to the back......

Cheers BeanoKev.
My local Smiths has done what they usually do: stock the exact number of copies that they sold the week before. (They had 28 last week and sold 12, so this week they have 12.) Hardly a way to build new custom. This is how they eventually ended up just stocking 2 copies of Xtreme.

Half a dozen Dandys in their display box in WHSmith yesterday - with two copies of Classics from the Comics #175 (due to go off sale after today) obscuring it. I moved Classics out of the way.

Re: The Secret Dandy Army
I should stop going in Smiths, to keep my blood pressure down. My local branch (and no doubt others) have now decided it'd be a good idea to put annuals in with the already crowded comic shelves. Dandy, Beano, Top Gear etc annuals now placed in front of the latest Dandy, Beano and BeanoMax on the bottom shelf. As if they weren't already fighting for space with puzzle magazines.
As for Toxic, it was placed right at the back shelf, in the dark, impossible to attract any new reader, and difficult for any current reader to find it.
Comics are losing sales and it's bad retailing that's a major reason for it. This is abysmal treatment, but as one retailer once muttered " s'only comics innit?"
Comics are the perfect way to encourage children to read. They're bright, lively, funny/exciting, and stimulating for the brain. Yet the "great" British public treats them like dirt.
