I kind of admire the fact that The Dandy are experimenting with new strips quite often since the relaunch but I was wondering what the remit is with regards to how/why a strip is removed / replaced / rested?
For example: 'Robot On The Run' was a new strip that started in the relaunched issue and is kind of a 'continuing' story. It isn't present in this week's issue but there is no news as to whether it is coming back at any stage or whether it has been dropped completely. A little tag-line of "Robot on the Run will return in xxx weeks" or even "...soon" at the end of the preceding episode will give a more 'reader-friendly' feel to the comic imho.

Agreed, but that used to be abused in the past. I've seen instances of stories saying that, but never resuming, like the 1974 run of Billy the Cat and Katie in the Beano. "That's all from the cats for now"... they didn't return until the 21st century.

In comicland, "for now" is as long as a piece of string.Digifiend wrote:Agreed, but that used to be abused in the past. If they'd said "Billy and Katie will be back when you've got kids older than you are now" it'd freak the readers out.

I don't think there's anything set in stone. They just want to keep the comic fresh. This is the way that DC Thomson used to run their comics years ago and it worked very well. Strips such as Winker Watson, Brassneck, and Black Bob would come and go after a run. Strips in the Victor were always changing. It stops the comic getting stale and it gives artists the chance to work on new material for the comic or build up a stock for characters to return.Spencer wrote:I kind of admire the fact that The Dandy are experimenting with new strips quite often since the relaunch but I was wondering what the remit is with regards to how/why a strip is removed / replaced / rested?

Who knows? Won't be too long until we find out though. I guess his General Jumbo in the Beano Annual was impressive enough for him to get assigned whatever his new project is.Peter Gray wrote:http://sjbeckettdesign.blogspot.com/201 ... -days.html

Wasn't it mainly the adventure strips that rotated back in the day? Comic strips would just run and run. I would guess though, that regardless of the rotation policy, Black Bob had to be dropped from time to time, else they would've run out of new episodes from the Weekly News to use. Of course eventually it ended up as reprints of stories Dandy had already used anyway, even though there was a few Weekly News stories remaining.
