Oh, also - someone put 'Colonel's Crackpot Circus'. That was a Beano strip by Malcolm Judge. I do believe they meant 'Pinky's Crackpot Circus' by Nick Brennan (and later Gary Northfield) which is currently on its second reprint run in The Dandy.

Imo It depends on who is voting/ compiling the top 75 if it aint kids then i doubt hardly any characters since 2004 revamp on would get in apart from for me nuke noodke & postman prat.it will mainly be pre 2000 or 90s characters that make it.

I think it's compiled by the staff, so it'll be the ones who've proven most popular in it's history. Some eras will get better representation than others. I don't expect any Xtreme era characters to make it onto the list (it's considered a dork age they want to forget about), nor anyone who only ever appeared in a prose story (all the good ones became picture stories anyway, nobody remembers the ones that didn't).

There's a fair number of characters with runs longer than 40 years - i.e. more than half the comic's lifetime. Any such characters will almost certainly make the list. Even lasting 20 years is an achievement, in fact when the current era started, only three stories were in that lineup that weren't brand new characters. Desperate Dan, Korky, and Bananaman, who were all past that marker.

Bananaman, Beryl the Peril, and Cuddles all share a unique stat - they survived the closure of TWO comics. Nutty and Dandy for Bananaman (since he's now in the Beano). Nutty and Hoot for Cuddles (Dimples was always in Dandy). And Topper and Beezer for Beryl.

The 90s was hardly a golden time for the Dandy. Not as bad as the 2000s with it's three revamps, but it's where the rot set in. Too many shortlived characters who didn't prove popular, and some of the long runners faded away. I don't think we'll see many in the list who started in that decade. Molly and Fiddle O'Diddle (neither of which I'm too fond of) might make it, as both lasted most of that decade, but the majority of new creations then were poor.

Tom Paterson's Hyde and Shriek will be put on the list...got reprinted and newly coloured later..a great strip by Tom...also loved Laughing Planet and those two pagers...

I agree the 90's Dandy didn't do much for me either...liked the whole of the 80's Dandy...it was sad seeing top characters going...though Tom was still producing good stuff...

also loved Micky the mouth...loved the characters reaction..

I now have the top 75, and I can tell you we have correctly guessed 51 out of the 75. 18 guesses were incorrect!
