It's funny you say that, the majority of those 50's Eagles I bought are quite frankly astonishing condition, I thought at first that some of them were actually modern day reprints or something as the whites are so bright and the reds so deep, but no they've just been keep from new in a tight pile for 60 odd years.
And in comparison I tend to buy 70s Busters quite regularly and I'm finding most are just fit for the bin. Maybe it's worse paper stick or something I dunno.

Paper stock is part of it, as the stuff IPC used in the 1970s was very cheap newsprint, but it still doesn't explain the food stains, tears, general dog-eared condition of some 70s comics. I'm just looking through a pile of 1932 Chips comics and they've been better looked after than many of those Battles I bought.koollectablz wrote:It's funny you say that, the majority of those 50's Eagles I bought are quite frankly astonishing condition, I thought at first that some of them were actually modern day reprints or something as the whites are so bright and the reds so deep, but no they've just been keep from new in a tight pile for 60 odd years.

A great opening bid for this now iconic set of Scream! Very rarely do you see all the specials included.
I have the lot so I'll be interested to see what the final bid will be: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Comic-Scre ... SwEgZZgY4E

Last #1-15 set I sold went for £190 inc postage, which was a mint unread set with all free gifts but no specials.
So £160 isn't looking so bad tbh, particularly as it has the spinechillers special.
Does seem to be a sudden appreciation for this run, the Eagle/Scream joint issues are still very cheap to pick up though so if anyone is collecting the set, then now is a good time to pick up the further combined issues.

If anyone wants a load of Warlord and Victor comics to read and lives in the Midlands, this could be a bargain!

Hole punched comics are just DOA for me. A lot of other faults can be overlooked or fixed in some way or other.
Holes punched and really badly rusty staples are the killers.

I always think it's weird when people say that they'll be adding the latest copies to an ongoing auction, atm he has around 2000 issues (unfortunately missing any of any real collector value) that have a bid of £150, so that's well below 10p a copy - paying cover price and adding it to the lot just means he's putting himself more out of pocket each time by the time they sell.
I wonder how many full sets are extant in the country..? I think they'd be a surprisingly high amount, 2000AD was very popular almost immediately from what I can remember, I even had a full run until I decided to stop buying it around the early eighties.
IMO The actual collectable run would be 1-300 maybe up to 500 if you're a real fan. The huge bulk of the issues after that became really very poor.

Not atall. 300-700 were huge sellers with some great stories of famous characters and classic writers. 700 to about 900 was poor. And collecting isn't just about how much they can be sold for.

Unofficial and infringes copyright.
That said... I'd love a Frankie book! But that cover is really very poorly designed, talk about amateur hour. Ken wouldn't be impressed.
