Your favourites in Lion comic..
i'm really enjoying your memories on these types of comics and great images snippets..so I'd thought we could remember this comic..
Re: Your favourites in Lion comic..
The 1970 serial Flame o' the Forest, Adam Eterno and Spellbinder.
Re: Your favourites in Lion comic..
I'd like to see more of 'boy inherits island' serial The King of Keg Island. I love that Tom Kerr artwork.

What other gems were in Lion that you followed..and was it a different comic to Valiant or the same type..?
Re: Your favourites in Lion comic..
Is anyone able to confirm whether the Flame O' the Forest tale in Lion Annual 1973 is a comic strip or a text story, please?

Comic strip, according to Steve Holland's Lion comic index. I don't think I have that annual now to check.Raven wrote:Is anyone able to confirm whether the Flame O' the Forest tale in Lion Annual 1973 is a comic strip or a text story, please?

Thanks, Lew. Did it mention if Belardinelli is the artist?

It doesn't say, so perhaps Steve couldn't identify the artist.Raven wrote:Thanks, Lew. Did it mention if Belardinelli is the artist?

Thanks again for checking. It might be a "getter", then! The 1972 annual was a pretty good one.

Re: Your favourites in Lion comic..
Lion and valiant were rather similar in my opinion, though each had a style of their own! I loved "The Spider" "Turville's Touchstone" and "The Mind Stealers" in `Lion` (I didn't get too many issues of Valiant) Lion's `Carson's Cub's` (Football) I felt was utterly unrealistic in its first few years- but when villains Arthur Braggart and Herbert Snook were turned into a sort of comedy double act by whoever wrote it in the 1972-74 `Lion and Thunder` years- it became really good for me!
A Face unclouded by thought.

I was never a big football fan, but I enjoyed the original 'Legge's Eleven' storyline in Valiant where a new player was added to the lineup every couple of weeks. With their weird talents it almost resembled an American comic book series like the Legion of Super Heroes at times!

Virtually every carson's Cubs match was the same- losing at half time- won it by full time! got SO predictable!

Re: Your favourites in Lion comic..
"Turville/Spellbinder" is my fave, a great mix of magic and comedy, and the art was so good I didn't mind that it was all black and white.
Re: Your favourites in Lion comic..
Yes. Spellbinder was great: wonderfully imaginative scripts by Frank Pepper and perfect artwork by Geoff Campion (though the Spider's Reg Bunn did take over for a time).
