Re: Not receiving topic reply notifications

I'm surprised, because in other forums I belong to, I'll continue to recieve notifications for a subscribed thread until I unsubscribe.
Is there any way to change this, so that I can stay subscribed?

Not receiving topic reply notifications

Hello there I'm subscribed to a thread and for a few days of activity, I'll receive topic reply notifications (sent to my personal email)... and then they'll stop, even though there are replies being posted to the thread. This happened for the first time a couple weeks ago, and when I posted another...

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

Phoenix, that's a fascinating take on it all! I have wondered for some time -- not just with the girls comics, but also boys' comics and the more (seemingly?) gender-neutral humorous comics -- how much the comic publishers were actively targeting particular market segments. I'd love to know your opi...

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

In the girls comics I own, which are mostly from the 1980s, there are indeed many historicals. I don't own a huge collection of comics, but they are spread across several years, so it's a pretty good sampling - and yes, there are many stories that fit your description - Ma's Kids being the one that ...

on which I can also do a breakdown for comparison purposes if you feel I have been unduly selective by choosing 1974. I can assure you though, Audiate, that I did not choose 1974 as my example because I knew it would prove me right. You mean, did I suspect you of a plot to go through ten years' wor...

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

This is another example of a male character from a boys' paper changing gender for a girls' paper. Wilson, Jo's trainer, is a female version of Wilson the ageless athlete, whose stories appeared first in The Wizard and then, after being converted into picture strip form, in The Hornet . Moreover, t...

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

The artist on the first example was Oliver Passingham and the fifth John Aldridge. Oliver Passingham, who is sadly no longer with us, was a popular and prolific artist particularly for Judy and John Aldridge, as well as much else, was the major artist on 'The Four Marys' in Bunty in its later years...

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

Klakadak-ploobadoof, here are some scans to give you an idea of what some of the artwork is like. Unfortunately the scans don't do the original artwork justice, as the detail gets a bit lost (and these ones have really lovely detail). Wish I had information on who the artists were!

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

The fact that you retain that amount (and detail) of comic info in your head scares me. ;)

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

Young Wendy Redreid-Robbin was orphaned when both her parents died from acute poverty after drinking water from their hovel's well. But Wendy had always dreamt of dancing at the Melchester Royal Ballet. By dint of working hard, selling rat turds to a grateful clientelle, Wendy was able to pay for a...

Re: Looking for Judy comics from the early 80s... or information

Trying to do those scans, but am having a hard time getting the incredibly detailed b&w drawings to look as they should -- what resolution and colour settings does everyone else use when scanning bw comics for this forum?
