Re: Beano/Religion link

what I assume is this week's issue of The Beano with a front cover headline WOW! STILL ONLY 85p. (It were only twopence when I were a lad, so it costs a fair bit more these days to watch Dennis up to his tricks ). I wish! :P It's generally £2.50 nowadays. It was 85p during 2006-2007, so the is...

But wasn't that confirmed decades ago, when he wrote a letter to the Dennis fan club page?

Re: Cuddles & Dimples to return....

It could be for a Summer Special- although the last few ones have been all-reprint, I don't suppose it's impossible that future instalments may have some new material- after all, the very first Beano/Dandy Summer Specials were all-reprint before they switched to new material. With last year's Summer...

Re: Continuity references

I didn't even realise that Danny's surname was Morgan! For some reason, I always thought it was "Deathshead". One relatively recent continuity reference I like is the official adoption of "Brown" as Walter's surname, as evidenced by Walter's Dad being known as "Mayor Brown". (Of course, this is a re...

Re: British comics in Greek magazines

At a guess, I'd say that the artist of the third strip may be either Paul Ailey or possibly Tom Williams. The second strip is definitely drawn by Rob Lee (Cannonball Kid, Kid Kong) whose style is similar to Robert Nixon's but noticeably scratchier, but unfortunately I don't recognise the actual char...

Re: Will The Dandy ever return?

I've seen the Beano in my local Londis a grand total of once. It was during a Thursday and there was only one left in the shop. I'm assuming that Londis are subscribing to the old method of "Only stock the number of issues that sold last week" meaning the amount of issues they sell can never ever in...

Re: British comics in Greek magazines

I think Hot Dog and Cool Cat might be the work of Brian Lewis, who drew Tomboy in Cor!! since the style looks similar but slightly wackier than Tomboy.

Re: British comics in Greek magazines

The first one is definitely Barrie Appleby. I'm not sure who the artist is for the second attachment but I think he also drew Mum's the Word in Whoopee. I've been vaguely aware of Fleetway/IPC strips showing up in other languages. In the Whizzer and Chips issue dated 11th July 1970, Sid mentions in ...

Re: Beano and Dandy Annual 2016

Agreed- intentionally censoring out slippers in reprint books- that are explicitly referred to as such- can only be described as playing it comically safe. As I've said in the pet-hates thread, kids aren't going to get traumatised by seeing comic characters get whacked, and parents aren't going to s...

Re: Ebay - you want how much for it???

I dislike things on eBay being listed as rare in general. If somebody is looking for the particular comic you're listing then they'll know whether or not it's rare; they don't need the seller to remind them. It also just seems to be used as a way to fool unsuspecting people into paying higher prices...

Re: Dennis and the end of the slipper

In the weekly comic itself, one of the last uses of the slipper was in issue 2385 (2nd April 1988), as seen here: http://comicsuk.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4388&p=49604&hilit=slipper+1988#p49604. By this point, however, it wasn't a regular occurrence. The Dennis the Menace annuals reprinted st...

Re: Beano and Dandy Annual 2016

I think it may even be earlier than that! I've had my fair share of nostalgia over the years and I'm only in my early 20's. Sometimes when I'm really bored I'll just watch advert compilations from the late 1990s and early 2000s and relive those memories of watching TV as a kid. On the other hand, ho...

Re: The return of The Yeti

New half-pager in this week's Beano. Betty and The Yeti. It's a revival of a 1993 strip The Yeti With Betty (Wikipedia says the original run was January to November 1993, which would mean it was axed when the comic went full colour). The Yeti himself looks exactly the same as he did in Robert Nixon...

Re: Old Comic Mergers - What If?

When Beezer and Topper folded, some of it's strips moved to Beano and Dandy but it didn't formally merge with either of the survivors (of course Blinky and the Numskulls are both Beezer strips but they ended up in different comics - something that couldn't happen if they properly merged - Blinky ha...
