Re: Issue 1, 2 and 3 available at Waitrose Southend on Sea
I made a trip to my local Waitrose today; a large store with a large selection of magazines for sale, to see if any Phoenix comics had arrived. I spent a couple of minutes rooting through the bagged nursery comics and copies of Dandy and Beano, but sadly found nothing. I wasn't that surprised, as I ...

Re: Issue 1
Re: availability of The Phoenix at Waitrose. On 7th December I emailed 'The Editor' on the Phoenix website to ask him/her which shops would be carrying the new comic. I never received a reply, not even one that said 'we don't know at present'. I held out for a couple of weeks, but then decided I'd b...

Paw, many thanks for the list of Dutch comic shops and also your recommendations. I'm looking forward to searching out these places.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Spanish reprints of British strips
Paw, did you happen to make a note of the name and addresses of these Dutch comic shops?
I'm planning a trip there in the Autumn and would like to pay a visit to any shops that sell old Dutch/European comics. I've read about the Lambiek shop, but haven't visited.
Any tips?
Cheers, Dave

Re: Conduct Of Members
Like Paw Broon, I've only recently returned to the forum and was surprised to read that all hell had blown up between 'newbies' and other members of the forum. As a relative 'newbie' myself I second what Paw said and hope that I haven't unwittingly offended other members at times. Like Paw said - I'...

Re: The Unwritten
Phil, Mike, I enjoyed the High Seas comic cover - Lew was right about that dog, wasn't he. I've now convinced myself that the bow of the boat (or is it prow?) is sticking up a little higher from the water than it should - perhaps because of the sheer weight of that dog! The dialogue was pricel...

Re: This weeks Dandy
I loved the cover to this week's Dandy (issue 3538) - a homage to the 1938 Action Comics #1, capturing all the elements of that iconic Superman cover right down to the (bird) character running off to the left hand side and the disconnected wheel. Fab stuff. Who said that the Dandy was only for eight...

Re: The Unwritten
Phil/ Phoenix, it is interesting to see those old TV Boardman covers, which as far as I know featured genuine American reprints. Those 10 Cents covers must've looked quite alluring to the British kids of 1940. There was at least one other British publisher that produced British comics adorned with a...

Asger, I have tried to send the Rob the Rover scans to your email address, lathspell(ad)pedersen.mail.dk , but have not been successful. This message is displayed: lThe address "ad <lathspell>" in the "To" field was not recognized. Please make sure that all addresses are properly formed. Is your ema...

Re: How Rob the Rover survived WWII
Asger, yes I'm a fan of Rob the Rover, the first British adventure strip, but sadly he has become almost forgotten these days. I've got quite a few issues of Puck which feature Rob with solid artwork by Walter Booth and later Stanley White (and others?). I did find the website devoted to Rob the Rov...

Re: The world's first "Comic"?
Stevezodiac, in a way you might be right about Comic News, although it wasn't perhaps the first to have the word 'Comic' in its title. I have a copy of Comic Companion for 1857, which looks like a cheap and poorly printed rip-off of Punch - complete with an image of Punch on the cover (see attached)...

Re: Bill Ritchie
I've attached an original comic strip by Bill Ritchie. It is a bit unusual as it is autobiographical and I'm not sure where, or if it was ever published. It was drawn on a thin A4 sheet of card and my guess is that it was probably intended for publication in a Cartoon journal or Comic Convention boo...
