Re: What comics did you buy today?

Don't listen to starscape, he's got no taste. And I'll have a word with him about this, this weekend. Bulletman, while not being the greatest superhero ever created, can have some enjoyable stories. That British issue is only half the size of the original American issues, of which there were 16. As ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Steve, that's by David Wright, I think, who was better known for the newspaper strip, Carol Day, which appeared in the Daily Mail. Wright is one of those nowadays less well known artists, which is a great shame. The strips ran for years and is a really good read.

Re: ComicScene UK

John McShane introduced us at the Edinburgh Con on Saturday. I doubt you will remember as you were reaĺly busy at the stall. By the time it occurred to me to get back and get a copy, you were gone and the table was bare, apart from an issue of aka and flyers. Fortunately, John came across with the g...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

While still trying to check the dates, I can say that "Eyes" was originally the "B"side of the single. I think the record company flipped it just before release.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

I much prefer Slow Boat to China by Emile Ford and The Checkmates.
I bought the recent manga collection of Sherlock: The Blind Banker.

Re: Hotspur - The Red Knight

Thank you all. I'd forgotten about Nancy etc. So I'm going to narrow it down to action strips and Kashgar's posts (see the link in David's post) gives us further action strips, this time in The Topper, which seems to have been the comic with the highest percentage of foreign strips of the tra...

Re: Hotspur - The Red Knight

Re. The Red Knight. I think I've worked out the issues concerned. The first story starts in Hotspur # 493 and ends in #502. 2nd. story starts in #503, ends #508 3rd. story starts #509, ends #514. As the original albums had 34 pages of story, I think DCT have used 3 successive albums but might, actua...

Re: Hotspur - The Red Knight

Abject apologies for in any way upsetting you, Phoenix. I try to be decent in my correspondence on this site and the others to which I contribute. However, I did think you were being humourous. Your comments suggested to me that you were attempting a funny, not very good but better that some of my f...

Re: Hotspur - The Red Knight

With any luck I can put my query more clearly, so as not to give Phoenix any further problems. Finding The Red Knight in an issue of Hotspur, I quickly recognised it as a reprint of the successful and long running Flemish strip, De Rode Ridder, produced by Studio Vandersteen and published by Standar...

Re: Hotspur - The Red Knight

Thanks for that, Phoenix. At least you replied, if only to point out my bad typing. Much more importantly, any chance of anyone helping out with my question? I was really surprised to find a foreign strip, especially one so important in other countries, and it would be a great opportunity to read mo...

Hotspur - The Red Knight

I'm just a wee bit late on this one, by a few decades, however, reading some Hotspurs from 1959, what do I find but a reprint of the classic - and I mean classic - Dutch comic by Willy Vandersteen, De Rode Ridder. Direct translation for Hotspur, The Red Knight. The story I stumbled on starts in #493...

Oh yes, the chase. That's the best bit. There is a nice, quiet satisfaction in finding and securing that elusive issue.

Re: Just a comment

Speaking from experience but old experience as I've been retired from the comics busines for quite some time, I don't remember having to take titles from Diamond that they were pushing just so I could have my order fullfilled. It was the same with Neptune and Capital City -both now sadly long gone. ...
