Re: just Dandy
EDIT: Watching it now, but I think I just caught a mistake. The presenter says that they planned to launch four more comics after the Beano making a total of six (a plan curtailed by the Second World War). Wasn't it four more INCLUDING the Beano, for a total of five? Yeah that struck me as odd as w...

Re: The Final Dandy
Well I looked in every newsagent and supermarket in Greenwich today, no sign of any Dandys anywhere. Last night I was at WHSmith in Westfield Stratford. When I asked if they stock the Dandy, the assistant hadn't even heard of it. Big disappointment as you can usually count on Smiths to stock pretty ...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Also on my travels through newsagents looking for Dandies I stumbled across some Dennis the Menace merchandise (which I didnt purchase). These were Dennis and Gnasher Mud Pies some sort of sweet I assume and they used the new Dennis look in the design. I didnt know they'd released any merchandise o...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Cambridge Oxfam is one of my favourites but gosh £1.99 is a lot! Can't assume they were all sold though, maybe they transferred them to another store.felneymike wrote:That's odd, Oxfam in Cambridge where knocking out 90's Beanos for £1.99 each a while back, and they all went in a week. I only bought 4, too!

Re: Any good "emporiums" in London?
I too would be very interested to hear the answer to this question! Searching for "comic shops in London" brings up shops selling American (or American-style) comics etc... not British humour or adventure comics which is my preferred style.

Re: Reading or collecting
I do both read and collect, but tend to collect at a higher rate to my reading rate. No comic goes into its "correct place" in one of my various storage systems (filing cabinets, shelves, etc), without first having been read - otherwise, in my opinion, there's no point having it. My unsorted "to rea...

Re: This week's issue Take 2
Am I being completely stupid, or does this week's issue have no issue number anywhere on it? I missed last week's issue so don't know if it was the same situation then.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
I was very fortunate to pick this up the other day. It's the 1955 annual and the condition is great! I paid £40. Clipboard01.jpg Also coincidentally on the same day I managed to complete my "collection" of the Desperate Dan/Dennis The Menace Ladybird books as mentioned in this thread: http://comicsu...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
In one serial various relatives from around the world visit Dan's Great Uncle Eb and compete to inherit his millions... in another Dan is hypnotised into thinking he's a horse and causes havoc... and in another Dan loses all his strength from taking hair restorer incorrectly! Those are the ones I re...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Mostly single page Desperate Dan strips, with some "serialised" stories running up to eight pages. I believe all the comic strips in here are reprinted from previous issues of The Dandy. It also has some text stories with one or two illustrations each. Of course, all art by the wonderful Dudley Watk...

This Whizzer and Chips fan also was upset when Tom took a break from drawing. Issue dated 4th March, 1989. Sweeny Toddler Moan -Whizzer and Chips.jpeg I'm surprised the editor allowed the publication of someone calling their ghost artist a "second rate amateur"! Let's hope this ghost artist never s...

A short break to Wiltshire, and I came back with 11 annuals - woops - the best of which was the Dandy Book 1953 for £10 - wahey!
