Re: Daily Mirror archive online! Garth, Jane, Andy Capp, the lot
A fantastic find Lew,I love Andy Capp but the site is worth it just for those wonderful comic adverts alone..It would unheard of today for a comic to be advertised in a red top. Obviously mums and dads reading the paper back then would have either shown the advert to their kids or just go out and bu...

Re: Bargain Comics/Annuals
From my experience car boot sales are great places for bargains on old annuals, that said dont expect them to be without broken spines, scribbles and grubby pages, the chances of finding an old Wham or Lion annual in good condition are zero. E bay is also a great source but again beware of descriptio...

Shame about the Best of Battle as I was looking forward to it.

Lew
I wouldnt be prepared to pay too much for a book on 50s comics as it was not my era however if there was one on the 60s ie Wham,Lion,Tiger...or the 70s Cor,Action,Whizzer and Chips I would gladly hand over 50 notes if was "lovingly" produced.
Mind you I wouldnt want the wife to find out.

Re: Most annoying comic strip
Thanks Raven it was indeed Aqua Lad not Aqua boy nevertheless he was too much of a mutant for my liking. As for Ad Lad running around studio sets I think that is why I disliked it so much it was too unbelievable, in my young eyes there was more chance of meeting up with a talking animal such. I loved...

Re: Most annoying comic strip
I have to agree Raven, IPC were at their best when doing spooky humour and Reg Parlett was always in a league of his own.

Most annoying comic strip
What comic strip did you find most annoying? It would be rare if even your favourite comic didnt have at least one,it might be the artwork, the weak storyline ect but you always avoided reading it. Some suggestions Wonder Worm from Cor! comic.Just plain stupid and not in the least funny.I also detest...

Re: Coming soon: Book on football comic heroes
Its right up my street too.British comic fans have never had it so good.
Strange to see DCT publish a book with ex IPC strips not that I am complaining as in my opinion IPC were miles ahead of DCT in regards to football strips.IPC were much more original and had some superb characters and storylines.

Newsagents abroad
When the rare occassion I get a holiday abroad I always check out the newsagents to see what comics are for sale and I was wondering if other comic fans do likewise. On my last trip to Italy it didnt take long to discover that Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were the most popular sellers.Although Disne...

Re: "FWADDAPP!"
For a comic fan in the 60s and 70s a visit to Blackpool must have been something else.I loved the Warren comics (which I didnt discover until the mid eighties) but as a kid I dont ever remember seeing them anywhere in N.Ireland. I agree, the Dandy and Beano Summer specials were essential purposes.If...
