Re: "FWADDAPP!"
Why DID seaside towns seem to be so well-stocked in US comics? In addition to MAD, I picked up the original Empire Strikes Back comics, assorted variations on Spiderman and a few Conan the Barbarians on childhood holidays- most of which I never saw again untill my late teens.... It can't be that sea...

Baxendale on the Beano
(It's a month old so this may have been posted elsewhere on these pages but I couldn't find it...) From the Daily Telegraph- Baxendale on the Beano's 70th http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2487298/Beano-celebrates-70th-anniversary-of-a-youth-without-menace.html "On a brilliant sunny day in 1938...

Re: Lord Snooty is back!! (well sort of...)
Snooty 3 seems to be a very unsympathetic character- he doesn't have anything for kids to associate with.
other than that i think that the beano is on a bit of a high at the moment- the general level of scripting and artwork is as good as i can remember in recent memory....

thanks lew!
bear and space raoul are both firm favourites in our house so it's good to know that Raoul can now launch himself on to the bookshelf next to Bear (and Looshkin!)

Re: Snap Shots Christmas Double number 1901
it raises the question: was the red costume a product of the most widely applicable colour across the media? rather like dennis's red/black jumper

Re: Is the credit Crunch affecting your comic buying?
it's hitting me- i'm down to the semi-regular beano/classics from the comics purchase and then anthologies for birthdays... what put me off subscribing to the dfc for myself and my kids was that several of the strips don't actually seem to be that good. when you can pick up a good graphic novel/comi...

Re: Crikey 5
it must be quite tricky sometimes to check the validity of a correction v.s. the validity of the published article.
just because i say that dennis the menace originally had a green stripe in his jumper doesn't mean that all articles claiming he had a red and black stripe should be "corrected"

Re: DFC NO:1
the problems are likely to be: getting it seen. getting kids to buy in to the idea. making parents more willing to shell out 50quid on a subscription than just the odd £2 here and there as and when pestered for a beano. we're all aware of the dfc but aside from the guardian's kids section, how have...

Re: Rodney Sutton
If it's any help he also did a lot of children's books illustrations (the Jennings books and Enid Blyton adventures for example).
You'll probably find second hand books that he's illustrated up on amazon.co.uk, maybe with cover photos, if you search for him by name...
