Re: Leo Baxendale RIP

An all time great! He produced some of the best illustrations and strips to ever grace British comics. My personal favourites being the large Banana Bunch pages in the Beezer.

Re: X-Ray Specs Artwork Buster/Monster Fun Summer Special

I couldn't see the page on that link. I think I'll just go ahead and buy it on eBay.

X-Ray Specs Artwork Buster/Monster Fun Summer Special

I have got a really nice piece of artwork of XRay Specs by Mike Lacey. On the back it says that it appeared in the Monster Fun/Buster summer special 1988. I was wondering whether anyone had this issue and could confirm, before I buy a copy. The artwork is a story involving archaeologists and the fin...

Re: Comics on TV

Yeah, if I was on the programme I would try and get as many of them as I could.

Re: Britain's Favourite Comic Character

I was hoping for strips rather than characters themselves. I recognise that most of the public would only know a handful. But I think it would surprise some to see some people voting for their favourite childhood character that they particularly remember. When I ask my Dad about his favourite charac...

Britain's Favourite Comic Character

On my blog I would really like to have a vote concerning Britain's favourite comic character. I will hopefully do a 64 knock-out tournament where characters will be picked out at random (although bigger characters will be seeded) and go up against another character. There well be a large vote at the...

Re: What comics did you buy today?

On my daily trip to the dump I picked up 3 Oink! mags for 50p. Including a Christmas issue and one featuring a Back to the Future spoof.

Re: What comics did you buy today?

Bought a really nice piece of Mike Lacey artwork. Xray Specs that appeared in the Monster Fun and Buster Holiday Special 1988. One thing I really like is you can see an old style telephone box had been taped over for a newer one. Plus it has a cool xray of a dinosaur at the bottom. Definitely worth ...

Re: Blog Blowfish

Given that your left-hand pair are post-war issues and your middle pair are pre-war issues, it might be preferable to use a post-war issue of The Hotspur in order to establish a balance. The kind of cover I have in mind to enhance that balance is on issue 557 (Nov. 30 1946) because the victim is so...

Re: Blog Blowfish

Thanks for the help. As my oldest comic in my collection is a Beano from 1949, I really didn't have must knowledge of the earlier comics and thus had to do more research. I will amend the dates I have cited for Film Fun, and in future I will try and make the header images for in date. I am glad you ...

Blog Blowfish

Hi all. I have recently started a blog named Blog Blowfish. Although not wholly about comics, I am doing a feature on the History of the British Comic industry. I have not mentioned absolutely every comic, but I hope to talk about every one I feel was influential enough. I would love it if you guys ...

Thanks for your opinions. By what you are saying I should just keep it and enjoy it for what it is. Probably put it on the wall.

Original Three Bears Artwork?

Hi all I bought this bit of artwork for a fiver in a charity shop knowing it is the three bears. It is on a slightly larger thick board. I know it is part of the production run of the strip but I would like some more information about the artist, who I assume is Bob McGrath, and the date and issue i...
