Re: Some help with some dates for strips please?

Thanks for the Black Sapper info and the corrections, on those - Thompson'll be the fault of the of the spellchecker, I had a bugger of a time with Grimly Feendish (I still don't think it's spelt right every time in that article now) but I am quite ashamed to learn I've been spelling the Numskulls' ...

Some help with some dates for strips please?

Hey there, I used to post here a while ago but haven't been around for ages (I thought the site had shut down) so this is a bit cheeky of me and I apologize for posting again solely because I want something (though I didn't know the site still existed until just now) but I've just posted my second b...

Re: Retro website cut back

The Retro Beano section seems to all be back up and running fine now. Guess it was a temporary technical error, which is good.

Re: Any Dandy Characters you DON'T like?

3 - The Bogies. I don't like gross out humour and snot humour is my least favourite of the lot - the Bogies makes me gag. In this case, you have never read The Bogies as the appearances and title are the only links to gross humour - all of the stories completely bypass any meanings of gross humour....

Re: Help for the new boy please?

I just thought I'd say (as i started all this) that I quite like emoticons but feel that they're best kept for use with friends or in a conversational setting like MSN or Facebook Chat where you're lacking facial expressions that would be important in a real life conversation - with some exceptions....

Re: Any Dandy Characters you DON'T like?

As a child and teenager I mostly ignored the Dandy, finding it to be the 'safe' option for mothers rather than the more anarchic Beano (similar to how I felt about Buster - this was the early '90s) and then once the X-Treme revamp hit, something that was just trying to hard. But the recent focus on ...

Re: Joe Kubert RIP

Joe Kubert's dead? That's very sad indeed. I studied at Kubert's for less than a term (before my mental health issues forced me to return to England) and met him several times as well as enjoyed the assembly he took - the only time I didn't speak through an assembly, in fact no one did, he came on s...

Re: Guardian article: The Dandy Faces Closure

I'm sad to hear the Dandy's ending (may be ending?) - it's a strange thing because the Beano and the Dandy have just...always been for so long (at least since 1937) it's sort of like Coronation Street being taken off the air. That said a lot of people (not so much on here, just articles I've read) s...

Re: Humour pages in girl comics..

Toots ran in the Bunty (not the same Toots as in the Bash Street Kids, she was much younger for a start) and Lettuce Leafe was in Girl (the original series) I don't have any pictures of either handy at the moment though (I'm about to go out actually)

Re: Would you read it?

I'll add in a character list, although I can't promise every single character as I don't have every single issue! I suppose that could be updated for a second version though (if that ever happens) :) Yeah, there's so many more issues per year for a British comic, and with so many changes happening ...

Re: Would you read it?

I would by it without hesitation because, hey, it's about Whizzer & Chips. But if i saw it was coming out, what would I hope was in it? I would hope that it would have full info on all the strips with pictures, including info on them from before they came under the command or Sid or Shiner if they w...

Re: http://kazoop.blogspot.co.uk/ a new amazing comic blog!!

I support your possible covering of Shiver & Shake mostly so I can finally find out just what Grimly Feendish's appearances there entailed and because I love anything Horror (Fleetway Street has already partially covered it though (http://www.toonhound.com/shiverandshake.htm), they've gone into abou...

Re: Help please

Mickey Merlin made his debut in Eagle Vol.18, no 38 (23rd September 1967), replacing Sam Fair's 'Cornelius Dimworthy' strip (I'd guess that Frank was originally asked to work in a similar style). Mickey was the most clumsy boy at Hardford 'Outward Bound' School until he gained his superhuman 'thoug...

Re: http://kazoop.blogspot.co.uk/ a new amazing comic blog!!

I came on here today purposefully to mention how good this blog's new posts have been this thread, as I was on there yesterday (for a completely different reason than to read the new updates I'm sad to say) but as i see the person who owns the blog is a member, I shall just compliment them instead: ...
