Re: Your FIRST Ever Favourite Comic Character/Strip
I would have to say I was always a Beezer and Topper fan as a kid and The Jellymen was probably mine, closely followed by Space Whacker, and The Iron Eaters.

Re: Star Weekly comics
The Toronto Star Sunday edition like almost all of the North American papers had the funnies section in it. The best one's which for many years were almost exclusively King Features were in my opinion in the 50's. Been running since 1892 and still going.

Re: Rocket's Blast-Comicollector
IMG_2635.JPG IMG_2635.JPG First ran across Don in RBC back in the 70's and liked him ever since. Though his untimely death was a huge shock, and extremely saddening. Have a lot of RBC issues in my lock up, and was lucky enough to snag some unbelievable fan artwork from The Golden Age Collector by D...

Re: Becoming Ken...
Ken's time with AP was pretty short Phil. About six to seven months before he left to start work on Roger the Dodger in the Beano.

Re: Becoming Ken...
Just for everyone's information an editor from Thomson told me that almost a third of the Ali Ha Ha strips were destroyed by the bleaching process despite Mike Barratt's best efforts, who was assigned to try and clean up the worst of the pages after the students had finished with them!

Re: King-Ganteaume
I was always led to believe that King and Ganteaume were ex Canadian Soldiers with Ganteaume being French Canadian? Obviously they didn't only produce for the their own comics as they did a ton of stuff in other comics especially for Miller. Much of their own stuff was produced by French artists and...

Re: Cover Story - Rover 1961-1973
Also just wanted to add how brilliant Ron Smith's covers were. Not sure who the colourist was over Ron's inks or if he did them himself but the colours just made those covers pop right out at you.

Re: Cover Story - Rover 1961-1973
Morning gentlemen, Jeff Bevan is a really underestimated artist in my books. He did numerous spot illo's as Ray mentioned, mostly war related but he did a few illo's in the girls comic's as well. Think he joined Thomson in late 57 Ray. Did a couple of free gift booklet's and if my memory's right Ray...

Re: D C Thomson free gifts - the 1960's
I strongly suspect Ray that the edible gifts are the most rare as, I have a very strong image of me shoving something into my gob that I got from a comic

Re: Fleetway and DC Thomson at War!
I have to admit seeing your Ron Smith post Phil that I much preferred the stuff he did for DCT than his 2000AD work.

Re: Fleetway and DC Thomson at War!
I think the answer to why war comics didn't really take off until the end of the 50's or early 1960's in DCT's case and perhaps Fleetway's also, may have been the staff. If you look at the wartime DC Thomson internal magazines which reveal the actions of those serving to those still at home, a lot o...

Re: It's Bond, Jane Bond...
To the best of my knowledge Jane Bond was only ever reprinted overseas and the version I have is French. Could have been printed somewhere else as IPC syndicated a lot of material overseas in Germany, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Spain, and Italy.

Started off in February 1967 in Tina and carried over into Princess Tina in September but didn't continue in 1968.
