Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

youtube is always worth a look when it comes to niche films. Indeed. Yesterday I found that someone has finally uploaded a watchable, high quality version of SOLE SURVIVOR (1970). For a lot of people of my age, this is 'the one about the bomber in the desert' that we saw on telly but which remained...

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

that's a new one on me, JT----sounds good. I do watch films on youtube now and again---I waited decades to see the 1932 much-banned film ISLAND OF LOST SOULS and I first saw it on youtube. That cramped screen is not really the same though---yes you can blow the image up but the quality suffers. I u...

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

Well, this is far from being 'currently on,' but I enjoyed it so much I had to share. TWO-HEADED SPY (1958). Starring the great Jack Hawkins, I'd never heard of this film until I stumbled across it on YouTube. I love it when that happens and the film proves to be not-a-disappointment. That's certain...

Re: JACKIE & MY MUM

JACKIE seems woefully un-represented anywhere in depth anywhere on the Net [as far as I can gather]: a somewhat odd state of affairs, considering it sold a million weekly copies at it's peak! I've been doing some Googling and there does indeed seem to be a bizarre lack of JACKIE related material, o...

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

I'm afraid i'm a fan of 1930s, 40s & 50s movies! Anyone heard of "Peter Ibbotson" "Portrait of Jennie" "Marie Antoinette" ? Three that I like a lot! Oh, 'Portrait of Jennie' is good. Haven't seen it for years but I remember it being very spooky. If you liked that, you might like 'The Lost Moment' f...

Re: JACKIE & MY MUM

Well, I was born in November 69, so I would say it must have been within about six months of that, which doesn't narrow things down much.

There must be a cover gallery for JACKIE online somewhere. I'll have a look and see if mum recognises anything. :)

JACKIE & MY MUM

Bit of a long shot. My mum revealed to me the other day that she'd had a poem published in JACKIE!

This was in1970, just after I was born, under her just married name Lorna Clarke. If anyone can help me find the issue her poem was in I'd be hugely grateful! I'd like to get her a copy. :)

DOCTOR STRANGE #4 and CLEAN ROOM #3, both recommended by someone whose opinion I trust.

Re: What Comics Do You Get Regularly

Right now the only title I get regularly is 'Johnny Red.'

The exchequer is facing challenging times which means belt-tightening etc etc.

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

I hope my mini-review didn't give the impression I didn't enjoy it, I loved it. I'm a great fan of survival movies - THE EDGE is a favourite of mine. I just don't think it's quite the masterpiece some critics are hailing it as. But certainly one to see on the biggest screen possible. Far more satisf...

Bit pointless seeing it now.
Yeek! Sorry. Thought it was vague enough. But yes, Leo does fight crime in Gotham.

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

anyone seen this yet The Revenant would be nice for your review.. My Facebook post on the film: "Well, that was a bog standard survival/revenge narrative distinguished by visually and evocatively powerful use of MASSIVE wilderness landscapes. I liked it." To which I'd add, it's really only the dire...

Re: childhood tv tomorrow night -for some

I enjoyed watching some of those old shows again and think one of those abundance of useless sattelite channels should show classic kids shows up to 2000 or so.I wouldn't mind seeing grange hill from the start to finish again as they only did s1-4 on dvd. And some of those kids on the children talk...

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':

One shot alone stopped it being a 5: the shot - NO SPOILERS - where people on one planet look up and see other planets being destroyed by a blast from yet another planet. Which is impossible because all these locations are in different solar systems light-years and hyperspace jumps apart. It bugged...
