Re: A new British adventure weekly.... Could it ever happen?
Just so you know, The Phoenix really does go from strength to strength with a great retention on subs as well as good sales in shops. It's not only Waitrose and comic stores (including some Forbidden Planets), but plenty of high street bookshops, with many branches of Waterstones on board. Can't fin...

Re: Issue 1
I happened to be in York for a wedding this weekend and popped into Travelling Man to see if they had any copies. Issue 12 was prominently displayed on the front counter and issue 13 had turned up that very morning (Thursday!) so big cheers all round. Shame about the Gosh! damaged copies, but I'm su...

Re: Issue 1
Also liked Gordon's (?) Garden Gary's, after (I assume) Gary Northfield. My handwriting is pretty bad, so I'll let you off :) Glad you like the strip though, more mad birds on the way... Have to disagree with you about Star Cat, Swirly. I thought this week was a brilliant episode! James Turner is a...

Re: Comic Football Suspended
I worked in part-works for 5 or 6 years (Horrible Histories, Roald Dahl etc...) and titles may seem niche, but they can sell extremely well. Retailers would tend to sell the first 8 to 10 issues which would carry special offers or free gifts enticing subscribers. Once hooked, titles can hold onto t...

Re: Baaa-Bye Derek
That looks really lovely Phil! I shall keep a beady eye out for it. There's a whole world of British comics outside of DCT, including the likes of Blank Slate, Self Made Hero and Nobrow Press. Walker for their part are working up a line of marvellous-looking children's graphic novels. Viviane Schwar...

Working on a brand-new 60 page book of dinosaur comic strips for Walker Children's Books at the mo' (as well as my regular Nat Geo Kids strip), so I'm busy enough

Re: What comics did you buy today?
People may be interested to know that branches of Poundland are currently selling piles of Gary Northfield's truly wonderful Derek the Sheep book - which is amazing value, but rather a shame as it deserved to sell out at the original price (except that I don't really remember seeing it for sale any...

Re: Current Artists
Gary Northfield only draws Derek the Sheep as far as I know - he had a strip in The DFC before it closed. His strip is unique as it is creator-owned; he released a book with some of the earliest Derek strips last autumn. He also did some Pinky's Crackpot Circus strips for Dandy Xtreme last year: ht...

I though Count Von Poo was a great twisted take on Calvin and Hobbes. I would definitely buy Toxic if that got a regular spot!

Re: DFC RIP
It ain't the last to go either. Wallace and Gromit Comic has folded (BeanoMAX issue 26 {the curent issue} says it's the only comic starring the TV duo) and I think Kraze Club might be gone too. It doesn't seem to be in my local shops any more. You are so right. If it had been in the shops, DFC migh...

Re: Roy Lichtenstein influence in today's papers.
Seems that Roy Lichtenstein actually met up with some cartoonists from the National Cartoonist’s Society in 1964 and no lynching took place. In fact they all thought he was a nice guy!
Nice little comic strip from Mort Walker remembering the event...

A good site for little Airfix plastic soldiers is this:

Not that I'm into that sort of thing, of course.

Re: The pc brigade are at it again
dunno, DAVID.....DENNIS may well 'come out of the closet' yet, in an appalling, 'new, improved' direction for the 'BEANO' to take...........or perhaps they may have DAN come on and directly apologize to readers for his acts of 'vandalism' and/or animal cruelty over the years........I wish folks wou...
