Re: KEN REID SUB

Wasn't Sub in Scorcher from its beginning? Until it was replaced with Football Forum.

Re: TV Action Doctor Who competition

Sounds like the competition to design a Doctor Who monster. Round about April, 1972, AFAIK, with the winner being an Ugraak! IIRC, the competition form was a picture (drawn) of the Tardis, then a photo of Jon Pertwee with a speech balloon, then a space on which to draw your monster. As it's over thr...

Re: Mighty World of Marvel 1972 Annual : whats going on here?

Also, some annuals made it to WH Smith printed upside-down! That is, the cover showing the Hulk was stuck on the wrong way around in relation to its contents. I know 'cos I saw some at the time. They musta got withdrawn as they soon vanished. Didn't see the 1973 Marvel annual till later whan they'd ...

Re: Stingray and Thunderbird Specials

There were three Thunderbirds specials produced by Polystyle. The first one had a cover featuring T1 and T2. Wish I'd bought the Stingray one!

Re: Anyone out there with memories of sending a joke to a comic?

In 1973, I sent some jokes to The Hotspur, which I'd copied from Whizzer & Chips (!) About six weeks later the postie delivered a parcel to me, and I didn't know what it was as I wasn't expecting something. 'Twas the prize I'd requested - swimming gear. My little brother decided he wanted in, ...

Re: Look-in Mike Noble

ISTR that Catweazle ran as a strip in Look-in from the first issue in 1971, though if it was in TV Comic in 1971 as well, maybe my memory is tricking me.

Re: Look-in Mike Noble

Apparently he also drew a Lone Ranger strip, possibly for TV Express?

Re: Look-in Mike Noble

It was surprising for me at the time to see Mike Noble drawing Follyfoot, as I was used to him drawing sci-fi action with TV21! He must have liked drawing horsey stories as he then followed Follyfoot with Black Beauty.

Re: Free Doctor Who comic

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there isn't anything at all. The newspapers seem to think its readers are stupid. In the 90s The Sun announced that every Saturday they'd have a Great American Comic with all-American comic strips, one of which was Spider-Man. In the middle of a storyline, they drop...

Re: The Sparky File 1965 to January 1969.

All this talk about the Sparky in the mid-to-late sixties and early seventies and its "change of format", so to speak, has prompted an odd memory for me. In a Pansy Potter strip, Pansy (and maybe her dad) went to a fencing school. In the background of one panel, as Pansy and Dad are walking inside s...

Re: Sparky 1965 to 1973

I had that same book for my birthday in 1967! Those were the days... You mentioned Will of the Well. As I recall, he loved ice lollies, and looked a bit devilish in that he had pointed ears. As for Sparky's gender, I always thought he was meant to be male - a lot of men wear ear-rings. As a youngste...

Re: Sparky 1965 to 1973

I might be wrong, but didn't "Lonely Lad" appear twice in the Sparky? I remember that at first, he wasn't quite alone; there was an old man on the island with him and the toucan. Then, at the end of one episode, the boy came home from an adventure and found the old man seemingly asleep, but he was i...

Hmm. I'll hazard a guess and say that the mystery gift will be anything from the previous issues that they had left over in the warehouse?

Re: Buster adventure stories

In addition to the strips mentioned (Galaxus, Fishboy Crabbes Crusaders etc) one of my favourites was Martins (or Marvins) Marvelous Multi Gun great art and story (and seemed based on th etop aspirational toy of that time the Johny Seven - which none of my pals families could afford) Wasn't it Mick...

Re: The Royals Comic Strip from The Sun newspaper

ISTR that the art looked as if it had been done by John Burns; if not him, the fellow who draws George and Lynne in The Sun.
