Re: I was a Photo Love story girl, admits Bruce

........they may even have once-fit ex-photomodels [aged 20 in 1978] 'recreating' their starring roles and scenes, with 30 years+ beerbelly added..................compared to some of the SADDO sites I've seen, it wouldn't surprize me......

Oh, charming! I'll have you know I was still a teenager ...

Re: I was a Photo Love story girl, admits Bruce

I worked on Photo Secret Love from the start, so the graphics probably look a bit ropey, hehe.
Pointless, random fact. Apart from the Editor and two writer/subs, I was the only art staff for a week or so...until they brought in a skinny young kid straight from artschool (who I ended up marrying ...

Re: I was a Photo Love story girl, admits Bruce

I was also a photo-story model. I'm in an issue of Oh Boy (about 1981?) which also had Tony Hadley (of Spandau Ballet) in a photo-story. Him and Steve Norman (also in SB) worked at IPC as messengers before they were famous. Tony Hadley was a right nerd too!
I was in quite a few stories back ...

Re: how did they colour comics in the 70s and 80s

Ahh, at last something I know about. :D

Colouring was done in many different ways. For instance, the two tone effect (either pink/red, or blue/pale blue) was achieved by laying an acetate overlay over the artwork and just filling in with block colour.
For full colour work, usually the black inked ...

Strange comic policies of the 70s

Kelvin Gosnell was the editor of Starlord. Nick Landau was sub-editor and Jan Shepherd Art editor. It was a long, long time ago and I was very young, but I do remember because I was the Art Assistant and shared an office with them all for the whole run. When that finished we went on to do another ...

Alf Saporito sadly passed away about a year or two ago. He was a top bloke and I was gutted when I found out.

STARLORD AND 2000ad!

If rumours are correct Starlord enjoyed the higher sales but 2000ad sounded better and also was cheaper to produce.I believe serious consideration was ...

Labour Of Love

Yes, Dave Gibbons was Big E, the fictional editor. The idea was to be like Tharg in 2000AD and the same thing was done with Starlord.

I remember the photos being taken and the fun everyone had dressing up...well Dave anyway, hehe. For all his protestations I think he loved it!

I have a picture ...

Tom Frame has died

I'm really, really sorry to hear that news. Tom was one of the real characters from the 'old days' and it was an honour to know have known him back in the good old days when he'd tell us bizarre anecdotes over a drunken game of pool, or, come up with a reason why pages were late that were so 'out ...

I have a photo of me as a little girl, sitting next to our tent in Dorset reading it. It was my brother's holiday treat and I'm sure it was a summer special (were there any?). If I remember correctly it featured 'Thunderbird 2' on the front (around summer '66 or '67?). I pinched it off him and read ...

Cheers chaps and apologies for not noticing the weblink the first time...d'oh!

In my defence, it was late, I was knackered and I am a soppy old moo anyway.

Buster Bag, quiz prize.

Found it!

It's very grubby though, so I'll try to clean it up and get a pic' for you. Might take me a while though so be patient, please.

Buster Bag, quiz prize.

Sure you can have a pic, if I can find it! Last time I saw it was a few months ago 'somewhere' in my daughters old room and I have no idea what condition it's in.

Buster Bag, quiz prize.

Does anyone remember when Buster gave away bags as prizes? They were round ended, with handles and big enough for a PE or swimming kit. It would have been late 70s or early 80s.
I'm sure I still have one knocking around in a cupboard somewhere, would it be worth anything?
Cheers.
