Indeed, I'm on the lookout! There was a copy on number 4 on ebay recently but it was in poor condition so I let it go.

Re: The Magic comic number 1

No offense to Malcolm but the reprint is on completely different paper. No one can ever be 100% sure without seeing it 'in hand', but if this is the copy that was bound up with the Dandy #4 and the others from that period, then I'm pretty certain its original. The photos of it look like an original...

The paper used certainly looks the same to orginals he has sold so I feel Alot more happy!

Re: The Magic comic number 1

I wonder if someone w ho owns a 1978 facsimile of the Magic comic would mind taking a few photos of it please, I contacted Malcolm Philips at comic auctions just to see what value he would put on it so I knew how much to insure it for but he belives my comic might in fact be a facsimile, he feels th...

Re: The Magic comic number 1

If you haven't already I would suggest you put it into a strong polythene bag. An upset mug of tea could be a disaster. Or, worse, a dollop of jam from a doughnut. I must admit I'm concerned about how to best keep it safe, currently it is stored in a frame and kept out of the light. I only look at ...

Re: The Magic comic number 1

The Dandy #4 that the gentleman also had bound with it was bought by Phil Shrimpton who by amazing coincidence is actually selling that very same copy on eBay right now. The holes where it was bound are easy to match up: IMG_9004.JPG Even with the rips it has I think it's the best copy in existence...

Re: The Magic comic number 1

You've got a good one there Thomas. How much did you pay for it? A few hundred? I paid £300 for it back in 2009, it came from a chap who also owned no 4 of the dandy, and had it bound with other wartime and later comics. I don't tend to handle it very often but today I decided to have a read, all v...

Re: The Magic comic number 1

Thank you all for your help, I have taken some new photos in daylight to give a clearer few. In all it is in good condition with only two visible tears to the back cover, one corner missing to the inside page and tears to the corners of each page where it has been handled. The gentleman who owned it...

Re: The Magic comic number 1

Is this an original or a later repro? Because of the overall browning I have to agree with koolectablz. There is no doubt in my mind that that is an original that has aged naturally. I have a modern reprint in my collection, the pages of which are white. If memory serves, which it doesn't always, I...

Hello from Reading

I thought I would quickly introduce myself as I joined today! My Name is Thomas and I am a keen collector of Beano and Dandy comics and have a small collection of war time comics. I grew up with the Beano and still enjoy reading it now. I also own (I hope!) Number one of the Magic Comic which I have...

Re: The Magic comic number 1

Thank you for your reply, looking at it it certainly has the smell and feel of old paper and visible wear/ yellowing to the edges through handling. The only thing that worried me is that some of the colours just slightly go over the lines whilst others are very clean and perfect, would that be down ...
